Your new role
You will be crucial in overseeing the daily operations of mechanical systems. You will act as the primary mechanical steward of the site, ensuring the reliability of system functions and supervising both preventive and corrective maintenance.
Responsibilities :
- Control and manage all aspects of the mechanical infrastructure of the eStruxture data center, mainly the chiller plants, CRAC and CRAH units and fire safety systems.
- Lead and implement routine planning to ensure problems are proactively identified and corrected.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with preferred partners and vendors.
- Lead or participate in improvement projects, where appropriate.
- Provide budget information during forecasting cycles.
- Respond to fault conditions, diagnose, and assist with repair / remediation. Out-of-hours response to calls in case of emergencies.
- Treatment of chilled water circuit.
- General operation and maintenance of stationary machines.
- Monitor and inspect equipment, computer stations, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters, and other instruments to measure temperature, detect leaks or other equipment defects, and ensure that equipment is operating at peak efficiency.
- Investigate the cause of problems, take corrective action, and make minor repairs to avoid equipment or system breakdowns.
- Responding to emergencies in the mechanical room
- Maintain daily logs of operational, safety and maintenance activities, and prepare reports on plant operations.
- Complete and maintain plant files, records, and reports.
What you need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in a similar role, with expertise in operating chillers, chiller control, and chilled water distribution networks, and direct interaction with suppliers and contractors. They should hold a Fixed Machinery Mechanic / MMF certification, a degree in refrigeration, and relevant electrical and ASP certifications. Key competencies include excellent written and verbal communication skills, a process-driven approach with high attention to quality and precision, capacity management for mechanical systems, familiarity with fire and life safety systems, and a solid understanding of data center infrastructure. The candidate should be able to work independently, and possess strong organizational skills. Technical skills required include strong troubleshooting and analysis abilities, knowledge of controls and IT tools, BMS knowledge, and expertise in inverters, generators, and mechanical systems (such as Smardt chillers), along with an understanding of thermal guidelines like ASHRAE TC9.9.
