Join the Canacre team in an exciting role working on leading edge infrastructure projects. We are technical experts in land, energy, and transportation development delivering accurate, innovative, and agile solutions to our partners. We provide land acquisition, geospatial mapping, data management, web-based GIS, community relations, land feasibility studies, and permitting services. Canacre’s clients include developers, large scale service providers, and government entities that are involved in the planning and development of energy projects, rights of way, resources, and infrastructure across Canada and the United States. Canacre works on large-scale wind and solar power projects, high-voltage transmission lines, pipeline projects, municipal roads projects, and groupings of cellular towers and rooftop antennas. The Environmental Monitor will primarily be responsible for conducting environmental throughout the construction of various energy development projects. The Environmental Monitor will primarily be responsible for coordinating daily compliance activities and monitoring duties during construction activities. In addition, your role will be to : Conduct daily inspections of construction activities and attend construction meetings Conduct wildlife monitoring activities, as required Ensure implementation of mitigation measures from environmental management documents, permit conditions, and best management practices Inspect implemented erosion and sediment control measures and provide recommendations for repair and amendment, when needed Oversee and direct soils handling activities (e.g., topsoil stripping) Develop and implement corrective action plans and mitigation measures for any identified environmental issues or hazards Support Canacre’s commitment to safety by participating in safety meetings, following safety policies, and being an advocate for safe work practices in the field Act as an environmental lead for the construction team Act as a resource to construction personnel and explain environmental regulations and how they are applied in the field Act as a point of contact for the Client and Construction Contractor(s) Verify that environmentally sensitive areas are properly marked and flagged before work is done in the area Coordinate daily with construction team to discuss upcoming construction activities that are existing, potential problem areas and areas of concern Coordinate with construction personnel to provide necessary information and facilitate regular communication among all parties Inspect areas of concern and make appropriate recommendations to construction personnel, as required Qualifications : Post-secondary degree / diploma in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field of study Formal leadership training would be considered an asset Minimum 2 years professional experience as a biologist, environmental monitor, environmental planner, or related role Wildlife experience (i.e., at least one field season of demonstrated experience in nest sweeps or avian surveys) Experience related to pipeline, transmission line and renewable energy construction would be an asset. Experienced leading field work, and coordinating with various field teams Experience and knowledge related to other biophysical disciplines, such as wetlands, vegetation, aquatics, etc. would be an asset.
