Job Description
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Environmental Advisor is responsible to aid in maintaining environmental compliance at site level within a major organization in constant evolution.
In this role, the Environmental Advisor is involved in maintaining; company procedures, follow-ups and preparing reports for the authorities, compliance and policies.
This role provides professional guidance, support, to the organization environmental activities. The head office will offer technical support to the incumbent and head office will review reports as well as being responsible in making the final decisions.
A strong collaborative approach in the implementation of programs and initiatives is essential in the success of this role.
- Provide environmental advice and regulatory compliance support to production teams and operational management on various environmental issues and obligations.
- Ensure that management and supervisors are aware of the site environmental regulatory requirements and procedures.
- Conduct site visit and audits and support the site team in the execution of work in compliance with all environmental requirements, procedures and best practices.
- Provide results and recommendations of actions necessary following non-compliance noted during site visits
- Under the direction of the Regional Manager, prepare the permits / updates and licenses related to environmental aspects such as permits, audits, ECAs, etc.
- Develop / update environmental plans, procedures and programs and ensure their implementation by supporting production teams and carrying out on-site activities
- Act as point of contact / liaison for local, provincial, or federal regulatory groups and coordinate any field inspections and communication.
- Work with H&S to aid in preparing response plans or any EHS documents and to ensure comprehensive support in case of EHS emergency at the site.
- Participate and aid in environmental input in site EHS activities such as safety meetings, tabletop exercises, emergency responses, incidents and investigations and inspections.
- Manage site-based environmental issues / monitoring (, third party consultants) when required.
- Aid in collection of environmental data (sound, air, etc.)
- Prepare regulatory reporting activities (, Annual Reports, formal responses / notifications, etc.)
- Prepare documents of environmental incidents for external reporting (spills, etc).
- Ensure proper chemical, radiation and other hazardous material handling, disposal and reporting.
- Take lead in investigation / management of external complaints relating to environmental aspects and report findings to Regional Manager.
- Aid in preparing, organizing and participate in Community Liaison Committee or any other required committee locally
- Support to buyers and commercial reps to answer environmental questions that arise from clients or the client’s auditors.
The support also includes advice and guidance on the environmental classification of the materials and their acceptability on our sites as per our authorizations.
- Aid as required, the ISO coordinator in carrying out various activities related to the implementation of AIM's Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Advising and supporting operations teams cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility and working with H&S team to promote the EHS culture
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years of Environmental experience.
- Minimum university degree in a relevant field.
- Experience in an industrial environment an asset.
- Ability to effectively work within a group and problem solve.
- Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work requirements effectively.
- Strong computer knowledge including Microsoft applications and web applications.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong written and oral communication.
- Strong Interpersonal skills to offer training sessions.
- Travelling may be required for Ontario Yards
