Here, you can apply your passion and collaborate with top environmental professionals on work that’s vital to our clients and the communities they serve.

Join a team that’s naturally committed to the environment.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Prairies and Territories Environmental Services group is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Planner to work with our Assessment and Permitting team. This role supports environmental review and licensing, an increasingly critical component of development projects across Canada and globally. We are looking for a motivated, collaborative team player who is passionate about making a positive impact on the environment. There’s no end to the scope and significance of your work, and to where it can take you at Stantec.

The team is based across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and while we embrace our core value that “we are better together”, we do offer flexible work solutions and hybrid work situations. There’s no end to the scope and significance of your work, and to where it can take you at Stantec.

In this role, the successful candidate will provide support to all stages of a project’s lifecycle including positioning, assessment, permitting and approval requirements, construction support, and post-construction as well as decommissioning support. Projects will include small to large-scale projects related to the mining sector. This specific role will have a focus on technical execution but will also include support for sector related business development in mining. With a working knowledge in federal, provincial, and municipal jurisdictions, you will be joining a multidisciplinary team in Environmental Services at Stantec who works closely with our multidisciplinary teams (e.g., ecosystems, water resources, cultural resources, and site investigation and remediation teams).

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and accountable, has good attention to detail, has great communication skills who thrives working in a team environment, and a creative thinker with demonstrated problem solving skills and a drive to support clients and internal teams to find solutions. Organizational skills and the ability to support multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced company are essential qualities. The successful candidate will support projects to meet their regulatory requirements and facilitate the completion of deliverables concerning the regulatory approval processes and compliance.

The role can be based in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Yellowknife or Winnipeg offices, with Saskatoon as the preferred location.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Act as an internal subject matter expert on regulatory requirements related to the approval and construction of mining projects within western Canada, Northwest Territories and Nunavut

  • Lead a project team of discipline experts

  • Lead proposals, pre- qualifications, and relationship building with existing and prospective clients

  • Prepare and review environmental assessments, regulatory applications and technical submissions

  • Communicate and collaborate with other environmental and regulatory specialists to ensure consistency in project execution

  • Support the development and mentorship of junior and intermediate staff

  • Participate in team and independent based work

  • Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all project phases

Your Capabilities and Experience

  • Direct experience leading or supporting projects in western Canada, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or Yukon

  • Strong understanding of provincial, territory and federal regulations, environmental assessment processes, permitting requirements and construction planning needs

  • Experience in, or a solid understanding of, the consulting industry in a multidisciplinary environment
