Job Description
This position reports under Transportation & Utilities service area.
This position is for a placement of a water/wastewater/engineering/technology student or recent grad. As part of the Municipal Utilities department, the successful candidate will have a variety of operational and project related tasks assigned during their work term. Operational tasks will occur at Small Water and Wastewater Systems, and multiple Level 1 Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment systems throughout the County. Project tasks will relate to supporting water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Some duties and responsibilities for the incumbent:
- Assist Utilities Operators and perform daily operations and maintenance programs.
- Assisting Project Managers with field needs of operational and capital projects.
- Data collection, reporting and detailed record keeping.
- Field testing and sampling.
- Supervising contractors.
- Travel extensively within the County.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from college, technical school, or university in an applicable discipline (Water/Wastewater, Engineering, Environmental Technology, etc.). An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
- Water and Wastewater Operator Certification of small systems or higher is an asset.
- Class 5 Driver’s License and satisfactory abstract.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform physical labour in unfavorable working conditions.
- Competent with the Microsoft 360 suite of software.
- Have an understanding of ArcPro and/or Arc Online maps and data is an asset.
- Possession of Standard First Aid, Confined Space Entry and Fall Arrest certificates are an asset.
Additional Information
Work Schedule: This position works Monday to Friday from 8am to 4:30pm for 40 hours per week. Flexibility will be required to work occassional weekends and overtime.
Hourly Pay: $29.27 to $34.43 hourly
Term Length: May to August 2026, with a possibility of extension.
