Job description

Plains Midstream Canada (PMC) is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). PMC also operates strategically-located facilities for crude oil and NGL storage, separates NGL from natural gas and fractionates NGL into pure liquid petroleum gas (LPG) products, including propane and butane.

Fueled by our strong leadership team and a dedicated employee base, combined with our expertise in marketing, logistics and our asset base, PMC is well-positioned to provide our customers with flexible, value-added services now and in the future.

We are looking for highly-motivated individuals who enjoy working as part of a team in a dynamic and entrepreneurial work environment.

We are looking for a collaborative and driven Facilities Engineer to join our team at the Empress Gas Complex , located near Burstall, Saskatchewan — approximately 117 km north of Medicine Hat, Alberta.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys being close to operations, solving practical challenges, and working as part of a small, high-performing team that values collaboration and mutual respect. You’ll have the opportunity to directly influence how one of Western Canada’s key gas processing facilities operates and evolves.

If you’re looking for a role where your ideas and initiative make a visible difference every day, we’d love to hear from you.

Why Join Us

  • Be part of a tight-knit team that values open communication and shared problem-solving.
  • See your work directly impact facility reliability and efficiency — you’ll have ownership and visibility.
  • Enjoy a stable work environment with a predictable schedule and support for professional development.
  • Relocation assistance or travel support is available.
  • Enjoy a strong sense of community — where your contributions are recognized, and you’re supported by a team that values dependability and trust.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and stamp engineering documents, work packages, and site designs.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance, turnaround, and project execution activities.
  • Lead or support site safety, integrity, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with corporate teams on feasibility studies, design improvement, and project implementation.
  • Champion Management of Change (MOC) and Work Execution processes using Maximo.
  • Conduct root-cause and performance assessments to support continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Asset Integrity teams to deliver safe and efficient plant performance.
  • Participate in short-term secondments with Operations, Planning, or Maintenance to build integrated site experience.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility upon hire.
  • 5–10 years of experience in facility Operations, Maintenance, or Engineering. May consider Engineers-in-Training if site tasks are aligned with career aspirations.
  • Working knowledge of industry codes (ASME B31.1 / 31.3, ASME BPVC Section I / VIII, API, NACE, CSA, ABSA).
  • Familiarity with project management processes (PMP designation an asset, not required).
  • Prior operational experience and knowledge with turnaround practices are strong benefits.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Comfortable working independently in a field-based environment.
  • Previous experience in oil and gas processing or heavy industry is an asset.
  • Hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving is preferred.
  • This position is not eligible for employment-based visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in Canada for the duration of their employment.
  • Our employees drive our success. At Plains, hard work is rewarded with competitive compensation and a top-tier benefits program designed to keep you safe, healthy and happy. We work hard to deliver exceptional results to our stakeholders while also respecting our employees’ need for personal and family time, which is reflected in our great benefits program. As part of our goal to be an employer of choice, Plains is also committed to doing business in a sustainable and responsible manner.
