This position works in the Emergency Planning organizational unit and involves specialized administrative work assisting with Emergency Management Programs and activities. The incumbent assists with the development, delivery, and maintenance of integrated emergency preparedness plans, conducts research and analyzes information pertaining to the program, supports the Emergency Management Coordinator in managing operations, implementing work plans, emergency management plans and protocols, coordinates the City’s emergency management volunteer program, conducts meetings and training sessions, and participates in emergency exercises as required. The role establishes and maintains effective relationships with internal and external contacts, exercising considerable independence of judgment and action within established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed for conformance to policy and the effectiveness of support services, with unusual or policy matters referred to a supervisor. Related work may also be performed as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 complemented by an Emergency Management Certificate and considerable related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The applicant must possess considerable knowledge of emergency management philosophy, principles, objectives, policies, regulations, practices, and procedures, as well as knowledge of volunteer management and training programs, the Provincial Emergency Program, and related legislation. The successful candidate will conduct training and professional information sessions, handle confidential information, make decisions according to applicable policies and regulations, and act with some authority under minimal supervision. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia is required.
This is a temporary full‑time position until September 30, 2027.
