Job Information and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Athletics & Recreation, the Supervisor, Fitness & Recreation will:
- Hires, schedules and develops staff for; Group Fitness Staff, Personal Training Staff, Fitness Facility Staff.
- Works with the Assistant Director in planning and execution of student programming including group fitness and campus recreation
- Responsible for communicating and upholding Dept. standards to and with staff.
- Creates staff development plans for employees based on career aspirations.
- Addresses poor performance, initiate and administer performance management action plans and/or corrective action as necessary.
- Keeps current and up to date with University and industry rates. Recommends the creation of a staff rate framework, to guide contract staff rate to the Assistant Director.
- Prepares payroll forms for hourly staff.
- Assists and supports staff in resolving any customer service issues that require managerial support/approval
- Prepares programming to meet trends in the fitness and university industry utilizing various comparable data resource points.
- Prepares programming to both meet needs of student and community populations.
- Sets membership, programming and service rates with the Assistant Director to ensure rates are competitive in the market.
- Sets revenue targets for fitness facility in conjunction with Assistant Director - to maintain business margins for the department.
- Monitors overall fitness facility environment, ensure cleanliness and equipment functioning properly. Ensure any problems are resolved in a timely manner.
- Be a role model for member service behavior by walking though the gym and collecting member feedback to identify training and development opportunities for staff, and overall business operations.
- Prepares and develops program information packages in various mediums.
- Updates Department mediums (social media, Tv screens, website, Fusion, Fusion Member Portal) with fitness and recreation information.
- Works with Coordinator Marketing & Revenue Generation on ongoing promotion of the fitness business offerings.
- Organizes various special events to generate new sales, such as trade shows, open houses, member appreciation events, workshops, fundraisers, event days, fitness shows, and other similar activities.
- Updates Department mediums (social media, Tv screens, website, Fusion, Fusion Member Portal) with fitness and recreation information.
Experience and Education Requirements
To be the successful Supervisor Fitness & Recreation you will have:
- Undergraduate degree in Health, Physical Education or Recreation.
- Certified Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer. Canfit pro or equivalency.
- Minimum 3 years related experience.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to function independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- CSEP Certification, an asset.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential material.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, MS Outlook, Email, list serves.
- Experience with Fusion (Innsoft) software, an asset.
- Knowledge, or previous experience in athletics and recreational environments, an asset.
- Strong communication, listening and writing skills.
- Cross cultural working experience.
