The College of Dietitians of Ontario (CDO) is the provincial regulatory body responsible for ensuring safe, competent, ethical practice by over 4,500 dietitians in Ontario in the public interest.
CDO operates on a remote-first / hybrid model, with required in-person office days for collaboration in our downtown Toronto office.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Professional Practice, the Practice Advisor & Policy Analyst (PAPA) plays a key role in advancing CDO’s professional practice and policy initiatives. The professional practice program furthers CDO’s public interest mandate by developing professional practice standards, monitoring compliance, and providing guidance to support high-quality dietetic care.
This position combines strong communication, strategic thinking, analytical skills, and policy development expertise to guide regulatory decision-making and enhance professional practice across the province. Filling an existing vacancy, the role supports the effective and timely delivery of CDO’s professional practice and policy functions, ensuring operational continuity while contributing to longer-term regulatory and practice priorities.
The PAPA develops and delivers professional practice advisory services to CDO registrants, students, the public, and system partners, and provides evidence-informed analysis and recommendations on emerging policy and practice issues.
Key Responsibilities
Practice Advisory Service
- Respond to inquiries from RDs, students, and system partners regarding professional and regulatory obligations through CDO’s Practice Advisory Service (PAS)
- Provide guidance and educational resources on legislation, ethics, standards, guidelines, and policies affecting dietetic practice
- Maintain accurate PAS documentation and report usage statistics quarterly and annually Evaluate services to support ongoing quality improvement
- Research, plan, review and write articles or other media content on professional practice issues to promote compliance with the legislation, standards, guidelines and policies
- Develop and deliver workshops, webinar educational sessions with RDs and other system partners
Policy Development
o Designing and implementing evidence informed and collaborative policy development processes such as information gathering, and appropriate consultation processes to support issue identification and the development of regulatory standards and policies
o Conducting environmental scans of existing policies, practice standards and guideline materials created by other health regulatory Colleges
o Gathering research evidence and information through consultations with RDs, external agencies and other system partners to support standards and policy development
o Drafting policy reports and decision-support documents for CDO committees and Board of Director approval
o Incorporating appropriate revisions and Board decisions to documents for implementation into CDO resources
o Consulting with the public, including the Citizens Advisory Group (CAG), as needed
