Today, Kalesnikoff is at the forefront of innovation, combining decades of expertise with cutting-edge technology to redefine what’s possible in wood design and construction.Role and Objectives : The Design Technician, reporting to the Design Manager, will support Senior Design Technicians and Project Teams in concept design, 3D modeling, and producing production drawings for critical project elements. Your role is crucial in ensuring the successful design of mass timber structures by executing project plans and providing structural designs that optimize the use of Glulam and Cross-Laminated Timber products, Wall systems, and Modular projects. Aligning with customers’ vision and objectives.Responsibilities : Policy Compliance : Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures.Design Preparation : Prepare designs and drawings based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other data, transforming them into fully operational drawings for manufacturing and assembly processes.Team Collaboration : Lead a small team and collaborate to ensure drawings adhere to project specifications and technical requirements.2D Shop Drawings : Produce and review detailed 2D shop drawings for complex projects for timber elements, including Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT), Glulam beams, and other timber and steel components. Ensure that all drawings are precise and facilitate the manufacturing and assembly processes.3D Modeling : Create 3D models, focusing on detailed mass timber elements such as cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, glulam beams, and columns. Include detailed manufacturing sizes, dimensions, and engineering preferences for connections. Ensure alignment with IFC timber and steel elements standards.Production Drawings : Generate, review, and deliver production drawings, including dimensions, material specifications, and assembly instructions.Drawing Review : Conduct thorough reviews of own and others' drawings to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with the company QA / QC process and industry standards.Coordination and Collaboration : Coordinate with other trades to ensure seamless integration of design elements, facilitating effective communication and cooperation among team members to achieve project goals.Communication : Effectively communicates ideas and gathers insights while ensuring clear communication among team members to emphasize appropriate task delegation, helping team members understand their responsibilities and deadlines.Collaboration : Work effectively with teams and foster cooperation.Problem-solving : Address challenges creatively and adapt to issues.Attention to Detail : Ensure accuracy in designs and maintain quality.Time Management : Prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects efficiently.Adaptability : Stay updated with advancements and adjust to new tools.Additional Duties : Perform other duties as required.Requirements : Educations : Diploma in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.Courses or certifications in Mass Timber Construction and Design.Training in Building Information Modeling (BIM).Work experienceFive years of experience as a design or BIM technician, including two years as a Mass Timber designer.Software and toolsExcellent knowledge of computer programs, including MS Suite programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam.Experience with CADwork (preferred), SolidWorks, Rhino, Revit, or other 3D software.Working Conditions : Primarily seated desk work, occasional walking to / from other offices and production facilities, as needed.Ability to focus after interruptions from in-person, phone, or digital communications.Requires finger dexterity and the ability to focus on screen for prolonged periods.Personal Protective Equipment will be required when entering industrial facilities (e.g., hard hats, safety boots, etc.).Occasional exposure to hazards associated with manufacturing worksites.Compensation Package : Salary : $65,000.00 – 80,000.00Schedule : Monday - FridayExtended health benefits including health, dental, vision, travel, Health Spending Account and RRSP program.Team building and social events.Training, development, and mentorship opportunitiesOpportunity to advance in your career.Work-life balance.A great culture where we truly value our employees.How to apply : To apply, please submit your resume and cover letter to [email protected] will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
