Your Opportunity :

Help shape Alberta’s healthcare future! Alberta Health Services (AHS) has an exciting opportunity for a senior medical leader to influence and affect change that will help AHS deliver on its promise of an accessible, sustainable healthcare system.

As the Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Strategic Clinical Networks™ (SCNs), you will work to advance services based on the population needs of AHS and promote a shared responsibility for improved health. Combining clinical experience and a proven track record in healthcare administration, you will play a key role within AHS leadership while providing direction and representing your portfolio’s strategic needs to AHS senior leadership. You will participate actively in the management and continued evolution of SCNs including the definition and articulation of their components and requirements and provide key leadership guidance in the operation of individual existing SCNs and development of new SCNs.

AHS is organized into five geographic Zones. As this is a provincial position, the physical work location is negotiable within the five Zones, and the 0.6 – 0.8 FTE offers more flexibility to create your ideal work-life balance. Outside Edmonton and Calgary’s major urban centres, the North, Central, and South Zone each offer bustling cities, charming small towns, diverse landscapes, and an excellent quality of life – choose your ideal setting!

AHS is Canada’s first and largest fully integrated provincial healthcare system, serving over 4.4 million Albertans. Since 2017, we have been recognized as a top employer for our efforts to create an innovative and diverse workplace that values the contributions of our employees. These awards are a strong endorsement of the care provided to Albertans by our staff, physicians and volunteers every day.

Description :

In conjunction with the Chief Program Officer, SCNs, the ACMO SCNs is co-responsible for the continued development, support and oversight of all Strategic Clinical Networks throughout AHS.

In this role, you will work to ensure integration between SCNs, Provincial Programs, Clinical Operations and champion and communicate the successes and improvements that SCNs provide. This includes partnering to support and define strategic plans and outcome measures that will influence desired transformation of culture, service model and service delivery and communicate cascading alignment of strategic outcomes measures and activities.

You will ensure meaningful engagement of physicians and other healthcare providers along the continuum of care in all SCNs and their active participation in the development of network competencies. The ACMO will engage key stakeholders in change process, in consideration of the impact of changes on both internal and external stakeholders, and manage risks and benefits accordingly in addition to continually observing the change process and making the necessary adjustments to maximize effectiveness.

In addition, the ACMO may be assigned to other responsibilities to support the larger CMO portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President Quality & Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the ACMO, SCNs works closely with, and provides expert advice to, senior physician leaders such as Senior Medical Directors and will provide direction and support to the SCN Senior Medical Directors with the goal of advancing the SCN Portfolio.

As the ACMO, you will develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders such as AHS operational leaders, Alberta Health, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, Primary Care Networks, AbSPORU, Alberta Innovates and the Alberta Medical Association.

Required Qualifications :

A minimum of eligibility for medical, dental or podiatric licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada or an equivalent professional body.
