Job description

The future you want is within reach.

At PCL, we build the places where life happens and find camaraderie in the process. We’re a community of builders committed to building better communities. That’s why we’re always looking ahead, and not just to the next project or what’s next in our industry.

We’re also looking at what’s next for you and how we can help you build a career you’re proud of. As a student at PCL, you will get the opportunity for challenging work assignments in a supportive work environment which promotes personal and professional growth.

We are seeking an HSE Student, for our project site located near Edmonton, AB within our Canadian Industrial Division that is available for 4 month starting in September 2026.

As an HSE Student, you will contribute to our team by:

Responsibilities

• Assisting HSE Professionals with inspections and incidental investigations
• Managing documents (i.e. data entry, SMC entries, taking minutes, filing, etc.)
• Development of training materials and other documents
• Reviewing paperwork (i.e. PTSP, tailgate meetings, safework procedures, trend analysis)
• Monitoring and maintain the environmental program
• Recognizing and following PCL and local legislative requirements
• Analyzing site-specific trends and incidents and report findings to district
• Gathering, reviewing, and distributing safety-related statistical information
• Interpreting, communicating, and reinforcing project safety standards to project team

Qualifications

What you will bring to the role:

• Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate program. Preference will be given to those in a Statistics, Occupational Health and Safety, and/or Psychology program.
• Knowledge of various computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to plan and employ preventative measures to reduce the risks of exposure to hazards.
• Strong willingness to learn.

Working Conditions:

• Successful applicants must be able to provide their own CSA approved steel toed boots and be willing to take and pass a Pre-Access Alcohol & Drug Test.
• Shift rotation and overtime may be applicable.
• Our project site is not accessible by public transportation so the successful applicant for that location will need access to a vehicle.

Next Step:

• Please note that candidates who have been selected to move forward to the next stage of the recruitment process will receive an email to complete a short online video interview.

PCL is an innovative, employee-owned company comprised of people who find passion in their profession and take pride in doing great work every day.
