We are seeking a creative, dynamic, committed educator to join our team at Woodroffe High School as : Secondary Long-Term Occasional Teacher Eligibility All qualified secondary Occasional Teachers are eligible to apply for LTO postings for which they are qualified. Qualifications The successful candidate will be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and possess the following : Required OCT Divisional Qualifications : Intermediate / Senior Qualifications Required Additional Qualifications : Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing American Sign Language (ASL) (Specialist) or Teacher of the Deaf Specialist OCT Additional Qualifications considered an asset : Special Education Part 1 (or higher) Qualifications Additional Requirements (experience, knowledge, education) for the Position : A high proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) level 3; Special education knowledge for differentiated academic planning for modified programming; Awareness of different degrees of hearing loss and their implications for students and their learning; Ability to provide programming for language acquisition and use student learning profiles; Effective use of a variety of strategies related to vocabulary development; Awareness of the developmental stages for a learner; Ability to meet individual needs via speech and auditory training, when required; Understanding of amplification systems and ability to troubleshoot with hearing aids when problems arise; An ability and awareness to understand and support the characteristics of deaf students with more than one exceptionality such as deaf / LD students, Deafblind students, etc. and to how to accommodate and modify for them appropriately; Awareness and ability to integrate the student (when appropriate) into other classrooms or learning environments; Ability to collaborate with a variety of professionals (e.g. Multi-D teams, Audiologists, CHEO, etc.); and, Previous experience working in a Provincial School for the deaf or working with the outreach services attached to the Provincial School (asset). A minimum of 3 qualified applicants will be offered an interview, including : At least three (3) teachers, who are currently employed as an occasional teacher with the OCDSB, who have the required OCT qualifications, and who best meet the criteria outlined in the job posting. If fewer than three (3) qualified applicants apply, all qualified applicants will be interviewed. An OT who accepts an LTO assignment cannot apply to another LTO assignment that interferes with classes they are actively teaching. It is the expectation that a teacher who accepts an assignment must agree to complete the assignment as posted. Teachers can teach a maximum of three (3) classes within a semester, which equals 100%. For those working at IB sites or Alternate sites, a teacher can teach a maximum of six (6) classes across the school year, which equals 100%.
