Duties
Provides simultaneous, consecutive, elbow and escort interpretation in the official languages at conferences and events organized by Parliament and by government departments and agencies.
Carries out research and prepares terminological records dealing with the subjects to be discussed and, when necessary, consults event organizers regarding these matters.
Captures the style and distinctive modes of expression of individual speakers to understand their messages and communicate them effectively to the audience.
Uses the interpretation equipment provided and adapts quickly to the changing conditions that characterize the work of an interpreter.
In some cases, translates texts or revises translations from one official language to the other, in accordance with the quality standards of the Translation Bureau.
Upon request, makes recommendations to the manager on professional matters.

Established in 1934, the Translation Bureau is a special operating agency of Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC).
It supports the Government of Canada in its efforts to communicate with and serve Canadians in its two official languages, Indigenous languages, foreign languages as well as sign languages.
It offers translation, revision, editing, terminology, language advice, closed captioning, and interpretation services to federal departments and agencies and Parliament.
The Translation Bureau also provides online tools and resources to Canadians through the Language Portal of Canada.

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
Notes :
1. Based on their education, training and / or experience, indeterminate incumbents of positions in the TR Group will be deemed to meet the minimum standard.
2. At the manager’s discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum standard.
EXPERIENCE
Experience of simultaneous interpretation from English to French and from French to English with at least 20 days of conference interpretation.

Conditions of employment
Various security requirements : Security clearance at the Reliability or Secret levels. The security clearance is not a factor at the screening stage.
The Parliamentary translation and Interpretation Division generally have work days of variable length and are often called upon to work irregular hours and sometimes weekends or during holidays, according to the needs of the service.
In exchange, they benefit of parliamentary recess. Since the irregular hours are part of the working conditions of the position is being offered to you, you will generally have to take arrangements to ensure your transportation between your home and your workplace.

If you receive an "Application Rejected at Screening" message immediately after submitting your application, you likely answered "No" to the screening question assessing the essential education qualification.
If you incorrectly indicated "No" for this qualification, simply retrieve your application and update your answer to the screening question.
What does "Listed in the Directory" mean?
When your application has been successfully submitted to the inventory, your status may be, "Results Release Date : Enrolled in Inventory.
This automatically generated message means that your application can be considered. You will be notified in the event that your application is considered in a process from this inventory.
What happens if my employment application expires?
Your application will be held in the directory for 120 days. A notice will be posted to the "My Jobs File" menu in your account 20 days prior to the expiration of your application.
If you ignore this notice, your application will be deactivated and you will no longer be considered for referrals from this inventory.
