About the Role

Terus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a seasonal Scale/Yard/Equipment Operator to join our team in Golden, BC.

This position supports Ready Mix operations by overseeing scale activities, coordinating yard operations, providing customer service, and safely operating mobile equipment. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, basic computer proficiency, and the ability to work effectively in both office and active yard environments.

Main Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operate heavy equipment such as wheel loaders of various sizes and makes, skid steers, and excavators in a safe and efficient manner
Perform all equipment operations in compliance with applicable legislation, company policies, and safe work procedures
Conduct daily inspections, pre‑operational checks, and routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and refuelling equipment
Ensure equipment is stored safely and securely when not in use
Load and unload trucks accurately and efficiently while maintaining safe traffic flow within the yard
Operate the scale system by weighing incoming and outgoing trucks, issuing tickets, and entering data accurately into computer systems
Provide professional customer service to drivers, customers, and internal staff, both in person and by phone
Coordinate yard activities to support efficient Ready Mix operations
Follow direction from supervision, adapt to changing conditions, and communicate operational needs or concerns proactively
Perform general labour and additional duties as required to support yard, plant, and site operations

Qualifications/Experience

A minimum Class 5 driver's license (preference given to applicants with Class 1 or 3 license)
Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements
2-3 years experience operating a diverse range of construction equipment is required
Must be self-motivated, driven and able to work well independently
Proficiency with computers, including data entry and basic software applications
Experience answering phones and providing professional customer service
Strong communication skills and the ability to take and follow direction

Working Conditions

Overtime as required
Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
Must be physically able to work general labour
Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry 50 LBS as needed
Use of personal protection equipment is required

The anticipated wage range for this position is $28.00-$32.00/hour. The final compensation package will be determined based on factors including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
