Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
The instructor will be responsible for the delivery of three lab section components for the 2026 fall term course, ERTH/ENVS/GEOG 2850, Foundations of Geospatial Information Science and Technology, and overseeing the virtual lecture delivery from the Truro campus given by the primary instructor. This class focuses on the principles of how geographic data are acquired, stored, managed, processed, visualized, and analyzed in Geographic Information Systems (GISystems).
The Part-time Academic will be responsible for delivering prepared labs, monitoring/ responding to discussion board posts, grading a selection of weekly workshop submissions (2-3), as well as coordinating any additional teaching support (marker / demonstrators) related to the applied portion of the class. The successful candidate will work closely with and take direction from the primary course instructor (Dr. Brandon Heung) for planning, development, and delivery of this course.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
The instructor is required to have high familiarity and be able to instruct students using the ESRI ArcGIS software, as well the suite of Microsoft Office products. Familiarity with other GIS software Whitebox or QGIS) is not required but will be considered as an asset. The successful candidate must also demonstrate effective communication skills, necessary to deliver lab demonstrations and respond to students.
