The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a casual Clinical Psychologist for the Forensic Service, reporting to the Manager – Forensic Specialty Clinics.

The successful candidate will plan, conduct, and supervise psychological services including evidence-based assessment, treatment, and consultation for clients from diverse backgrounds who may be suffering from mental health and addiction problems and who are detained under the Criminal Code or under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB), and admitted to the CAMH Forensic Service. The candidate will be responsible for reviewing and writing reports, conducting risk assessments, psychological assessments, and assessing for malingering for court-ordered NCR assessments through the Brief Assessment Unit. Responsibilities may also include : attending and contributing to clinical discussion at case conferences and informing other clinical discussions and processes. This clinical role will support assessments, treatment and case consultation across the service, including the Forensic Assessment and Consultation team (FORCAT), the Brief Assessment Unit (BAU), and the Office of the Person in Charge (OPIC).

The successful candidate will also take a leadership role in education, clinical training, and other academic activities within the program. The successful candidate will contribute to program development, evaluation and research. You will support capacity building and inter-professional education, including clinical supervision of individual and group based practice offered by other clinicians in the Forensic Service, and provide training and supervision to doctoral level psychology students / residents and learners across disciplines. This individual will report to the manager and the Chiefs of the Forensic and Psychology Divisions and will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable standards and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements

The candidate must be registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to practice Clinical Psychology with forensic populations. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in Psychology combined with 3 years clinical experience. The successful candidate will have in depth knowledge of the Criminal Code and the ORB, as well as extensive experience conducting risk and strength based assessments, and psychological testing for court-ordered assessments (including, but not limited to, tests related to the assessment of personality characteristics, cognition, and malingering). The successful candidate will also have extensive experience with empirically supported psychosocial intervention, including competence in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for psychosis, third-wave behavioural interventions (e.g. DBT, ACT etc.), and extensive training and experience in motivational interviewing. Research and / or evaluation experience in applied clinical contexts is also an asset, and experience working with a forensic mental health patient population is strongly preferred. The successful candidate will also be required to provide training, supervision, consultation and support capacity-building initiatives. You will also have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills and function well within a cooperative, collaborative working environment. You have the ability for self-directed learning / working, while working concurrently on multiple projects. The successful candidate is able to work independently with minimal supervision, seeking advice and support when needed. You must be able to work effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. An excellent attendance record, consistency, and reliability should be demonstrated in your record of past employment and references.

Bilingualism (French / English) and / or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
