Your opportunity :

The Partnerships team at the Department of Computer Science is focused on seeking, developing and maintaining internal and external partnerships that will enhance funding, research and mentorship opportunities and build new research collaborations in alignment with the department’s goals. The team works with Principal Investigators at the Department to help distribute information on new opportunities and to provide support for actualizing collaborations.

As part of the Partnerships team, the Research Grant Writer & Coordinator supports the research grant applications and research award nominations. The position supports the grant and award applications process by advising faculty on funding application strategies, and coordinating and guiding applicants through pre-award phases of the research funding application process. The Research Grant Writer & Coordinator works with sponsor’s guidelines to complete, enhance, and submit research applications, advising on improvements to draft funding proposals to meet requirements and successful outcomes, conducting detailed review of applications, and keeping well-informed on research funding programs, application guidelines, policies / procedures and regulations funding. This position serves an integral role in researching and recommending new opportunities for external funding and awards.

Your responsibilities will include :

  • Advising faculty on funding application strategies
  • Liaising with agencies, collaborators, industry sponsors, faculty and other stakeholders regarding funding applications
  • Disseminating information regarding research funding programs and opportunities to the research community
  • Researching, analyzing and recommending grant opportunities
  • Advising on improvements to draft funding proposals to better meet agency requirements, reviewing to ensure that application guidelines are met
  • Keeping well-informed on research funding programs, application guidelines, policies / procedures and regulations
  • Fostering positive relationships with project partners
  • Drafting and editing content for grant applications

Essential Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent and relevant experience in grant writing, technical writing, or acceptable equivalent experience
  • Experience and proven track record of securing grants from government agencies, foundations, and corporations
  • Experience writing, editing, reviewing and submitting communications materials, such as grant funding applications, reports, and proposals
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively
  • Experience researching, identifying, and advising on research funding opportunities and collaboration
  • Experience with industry and academic research related to the domains of computer science is preferred
  • Knowledge of the specific industry or field relevant to the organization’s programs (e.g. healthcare, education, technology) is preferred
  • Experience administering and applying University guidelines and practices related to grants is preferred
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work under pressure and a constantly fluctuating workload and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Principal Investigators, faculty, academic administrators within the University, and with external stakeholders and partners
  • Ability to work with team members and contacts, and to exceed team and client expectations
