Job Summary

The Team

The Esquimalt Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Indigenous Services Team is a dedicated group of Outreach Mental Health Clinicians from a variety of disciplines. The team is made up of Psychologist, Psychiatric Nurse, Clinical Social Worker, Clinical Counsellors and Support Workers. The team sees Indigenous Children and Families from Metchosin to Sidney and serves 6 Indigenous Communities as well as Urban Indigenous and Metis children, youth, and families. Together, we bring energy, expertise, and a commitment to knowledge-sharing, working alongside Indigenous families and community partners to deliver wrap-around support. We provide a welcoming and respectful environment with regular opportunities for training and clinical discussions, empowering each team member to grow in their practice. The Role

As the Licensed Psychologist on the Indigenous Services team, you'll play a vital role in providing direct clinical services to Indigenous children, youth, and families by providing, intake services, psychological testing and assessment, integrated practice (children in care), treatment and some crisis intervention. You will consult with your fellow team members in your capacity as a psychologist offering insight into testing, interpretation, and diagnosis. You will work closely with team members, community agencies, schools, hospitals and other ministry programs to provide comprehensive care, including individual, group and family therapy. You will have the opportunity to work with a supportive and passionate team to make a meaningful positive difference in the lives of children, youth, and their families.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Ph. D in Clinical Psychology.(Applicants with a Ph. D. and eligible for registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) may be considered for appointment at a lower classification. As a condition of continued employment, such an appointee is required to become registered as a Licensed Psychologist.)

NOTE : If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

  • Registered (or in the process of being registered) with the College of Psychologists of British Columbia as a Psychologist.
  • Completion of a psychological pre-or post-doctoral internship of 1600 hours in a child and youth mental health or hospital setting with specialization in formal psychological assessment, diagnoses and treatment of mental health disorders.
  • Experience in clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology.
  • Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
  • Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Two years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Experience in providing direct interventions around the trauma-based behaviours of children and youth.
  • Experience working with Indigenous children, youth and families providing mental health services.
  • One or more years' experience providing a variety of outreach and community-based work-related activities.
  • Completion of formal post-graduate trauma training focusing on neurodevelopment, and attachment such as : Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (Child Trauma Academy), and / or the Complex Trauma Certificate (JIBC).
  • Completed training in infant mental health and parent-child relational interventions and assessment tools such as : Watch, Wait and Wonder, The Circle of Security, and the AMBIANCE-Brief measure.
  • Experience facilitating presentations on trauma informed material to social workers, caregivers, educators, and other professionals involved in the care and treatment of complex children and youth.

    This is a part time position (0.8 FTE, 56 hours bi-weekly).
