Pediatric Endocrinologist – Locum
The Department of Pediatrics, at Windsor Regional Hospital, is inviting applications for a Locum Pediatric Endocrinologist to join its Pediatric program. Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of OHIP fee-for-service and Hospital on-call coverage stipend. The anticipated start date for this position May 2025 with the possibility of the position changing to full-time.
The Department of Pediatrics consists of general pediatrics and various pediatric subspecialties. It houses both a Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as well as a range of ambulatory clinics including the 'Pediatric Diabetes and Metabolic Clinic', providing comprehensive in-patient and outpatient services to a population of about 400,000 in Windsor and Essex County of Southwestern Ontario.
The 'Pediatric Diabetes and Metabolic Clinic' manages approximately 250 patients with type 1 diabetes and 30 patients with type 2 diabetes. Each fiscal year, the clinic has between 4,000 and 5,000 patient visits, with nearly half of those visits related to diabetes care. The clinic is supported by 1 FTE Registered Nurse Certified Diabetes Educator (RN CDE), 1 FTE Registered Dietitian CDE, and a couple of part-time non-CDE registered nurses.
The 16- bedded CTU provides acute care for children with a wide variety of general pediatric conditions, including admissions locally from the Emergency Department, transfers from other hospitals within the region, as well as from the 22-bed Level 2C Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The ambulatory clinics, consisting of both general pediatric and subspecialty services, see around 10,000 clinic visits in a year. However, children needing pediatric intensive care and general surgery services are referred to regional tertiary children’s hospitals in London or Detroit. In recognition of the growing needs of the region, the Pediatric Program is part of the plans for a major reform of the Windsor-Essex Hospitals System, which includes construction of a state-of-the-art acute care hospital. WRH is actively planning to break ground on the new acute care hospital in 2026.
