Chief Estimator – Concrete (ICI Construction)
Hamilton, ON
$140,000 – $180,000 + Bonus + Full Benefits

The Opportunity
Newlands Group is partnering with a well-established construction company in Hamilton to hire a Chief Estimator specializing in concrete and ICI construction.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the estimating function, driving bid strategy, and ensuring accurate, competitive pricing across a diverse portfolio of institutional, commercial, and industrial projects.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in concrete forming and a strong understanding of ICI project delivery, with the ability to lead a team while remaining hands-on in complex estimates.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the estimating team
  • Establish best practices, processes, and standards across the estimating function
  • Review and approve all major bids prior to submission

Bid Management & Strategy

  • Oversee the full tendering process from bid review to submission
  • Develop bid strategies to ensure competitive and profitable positioning
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project requirements

Costing & Analysis

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for concrete forming and ICI construction projects
  • Develop and maintain accurate pricing databases, labour rates, and production metrics
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering options within bids

Subcontractor & Supplier Coordination

  • Build and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing
  • Negotiate pricing and scope inclusions

Collaboration & Handover

  • Work closely with operations, project management, and senior leadership
  • Ensure smooth handover of awarded projects to the execution team
  • Provide ongoing support and cost insight throughout the project lifecycle

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of estimating experience within construction, with a strong focus on concrete forming and ICI projects
  • Proven experience in a senior or leadership estimating role
  • Strong knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and bid processes
  • Advanced understanding of concrete forming methods, costs, and productivity
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
