Advanced Theatre Practitioner - Ophthalmology (PCEU Windsor)

Band 6 Advanced Theatre Practitioner (Multi Skilled - Scrub & Anaesthetic) - Eye Ward Operating Theatre Department

PLEASE NOTE : This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP - and attracts a Fringe payment of 5% of gross basic salary.

We are looking for a highly motivated multi-skilled ophthalmic theatre practitioner who is competent in both ophthalmic scrub and anaesthetic roles, with proven leadership skills to work within our busy Eye Ward Operating Theatre Department.

As a Professional Role Model, you will provide a high standard of evidence-based clinical leadership and practice development to support our team of professionals.

Motivated and enthusiastic about your own professional development and keen to enhance your skills and competencies within the team.

You will be expected to work closely with the surgical team, assisting in implementing practice change where required.

Provide evidence of underpinning your practice involving our CARE Values.

The post holder will be required to have ALS Certification.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of a MDT providing ophthalmology surgical procedures.

Assisting Anaesthetist, Surgeon and Day Ward MDT in preparation of patients undergoing ophthalmic surgical procedures.

Job responsibilities

To help coordinate the skilled care of patients within the surgical theatre speciality, demonstrating expertise in all aspects of care of patients.

As required, to provide direct support to clinicians and patients.

To contribute to the management of the specialty by acting as a professional role model, able to confidently lead a team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • RN or RODP.
  • Mentorship or teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Post registration qualification / module in anaesthetics and / or surgery and / or recovery and / or HDU.
  • Advanced Life Support certification.

Experience

  • Able to demonstrate considerable experience in anaesthetics and / or surgery and / or recovery.
  • Experience of teaching and assessing.
  • Evidence of professional development.
  • Experience in team leading.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service Check
