JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Manager, Investment Operations and Compliance.
Reporting to the Managing Director, Portfolio Strategy and Investment Risk, this position is responsible for leading the operations function in supporting OPG’s Fund Management Group which oversees a portfolio of over $46 billion across the OPG pension fund and nuclear segregated funds (together, “the Funds”), comprising the 10th largest portfolio of assets in Canada.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- In addition to the above, the Senior Manager may from time to time be required to replace or represent the Managing Director, Portfolio Strategy and Investment Risk.
- The Senior Manager is responsible for managing Fund Management’s Operations group including the development of Fund Management staff, promoting an environment of engagement, continuous learning and growth for the group.
- The Senior Manager will work closely with Fund Management’s Managing Directors and OPG’s Chief Investment Officer in developing and implementing the operational due diligence program relevant for each aspect of the Funds’ investment program. The Senior Manager will manage internal relationships with various business unit leaders (Legal, Tax, Human Resources, Business Planning and Management Reporting, Corporate Accounting, Corporate Secretariat and Enterprise Risk), and, in respect of the Nuclear Funds with Ontario Financing Authority representatives, to supply and receive information and data related to the operations, compliance, and financial accounting with respect to the Funds.
- The Senior Manager will work closely with key investment managers and service providers in carrying out his / her operational, compliance, and operational due diligence activities for the Funds. Primary external contacts include the Funds’ custodian, the Fund’s service providers, and investment managers (as may be applicable).
- Ensure all activities engaged by the Funds are properly recorded and reported by the custodian.
- Develop and maintain Fund Management's document retention framework and processes.
- Lead and oversee all aspects of annual audits carried out in connection with the Funds' financial or operational activities (annual financial audit, ICOFR audit, or operational / internal audit).
- Maintain the Fund's policies and procedures.
- Monitor and report on the Fund's compliance with all applicable legislation, and Fund level policies.
- Establish internal reporting deadlines for all Committee and Board reporting; obtaining submissions from external and internal subject matter experts, and coordinate distribution with Fund Management's administrative staff.
- Prepare Fund level operational, financial, or compliance information necessary for all regular Committee and Board reporting.
- Manage relationship and continually assess performance of custodial and performance analytics services provided by the Fund's custodian and performance provider.
- Assist Corporate Accounting / External Reporting with the preparation and review of the Funds' financial statements and related material disclosed or otherwise included in OPG's financial statements.
- Lead and coordinate all necessary internal certification over financial records on behalf of Fund Management.
- Act as the primary liaison between Fund Management and internal service providers such as Corporate Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, Nuclear Waste Management Division, Risk Services and Taxation on Fund level operational, financial, and compliance functions.
- Manage the cash flow and liquidity needs of the Funds' financial activities.
- Oversee the payables / receivables functions in connection with the Funds' financial activities.
- Ensure suitable internal controls are established, maintained and improved in order to ensure integrity of the Funds' financial systems and safeguard the Funds' financial assets.
- Develop and maintain Fund Management's disaster recovery and business continuity procedures.
- Develop, implement and maintain an operational due diligence program relevant for the Funds' investment activities based on a risk based framework and consistent with best practices amongst the Funds' peers.
- Review investment mandate contractual terms and reporting prior to execution for consistency with other investments and asset classes, overall expense analysis, financial statement review, sufficiency of financial and tax reporting, investment transparency, governance, and liquidation provisions.
- Manage Fund Management's core IT systems and related service providers.
- Develop annual budget and maintain budget process for Fund Management, and for the Funds.
- Develop and maintain desktop procedures specifying the procedures carried out by the Fund Management operations group.
- Continuously seek out and implement methods to develop operational and compliance synergies between the Funds.
- Keep abreast of changes and developments in the industry as it relates to operations, compliance, financial accounting, and investments.
- Support the Managing Director, Portfolio Strategy and Investment Risk in the achievement of his / her objectives.
- Manage, train, and oversee operations staff.
