Job description

Queen’s University is situated on traditional Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Territory.

Queen’s University, one of Canada’s most distinguished academic institutions, is home to the Smith School of Business, a cornerstone of Queen’s that is widely recognized for its innovative programs, impactful research, and commitment to shaping the future of business and society. Located in Kingston, Ontario, Queen’s is known for its commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and the advancement of knowledge across disciplines.

Queen’s is seeking an inspiring, strategic, and dynamic leader to serve as its next Dean of the Smith School of Business . This is a unique opportunity for a bold, collaborative, and future-oriented academic leader to guide one of Canada’s most prestigious business schools through its next chapter of innovation, growth, and impact.

Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), the Dean is responsible for setting and realising an aspirational vision for Smith Business. The Dean leads the School’s academic mission, promoting and ensuring excellence in research, developing innovative programming, and maintaining an outstanding student experience. The Dean ensures the School’s long-term sustainability through strategic planning, financial stewardship, and operational excellence. A champion of interdisciplinary collaboration and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Dean fosters a culture of purpose, innovation, and belonging. As a senior university leader and key external ambassador, the Dean strengthens partnerships across Queen’s, with industry and alumni, and plays a central role in fundraising, reputation building, and shaping Smith Business’s global impact. The Dean is a member of the university’s leadership team delivering the institution’s strategic goals and objectives.

As an ideal candidate, you are a strategic, collaborative, and inspiring academic leader with a record of success in advancing research, teaching, and institutional change. You bring a strong scholarly reputation and the integrity, credibility, and character to build trust across a diverse academic community. You are an inclusive and equitable leader with experience within complex environments, managing budgets, and building teams in meaningful and measurable ways. You are comfortable navigating change, skilled at forging strong internal and external relationships, and passionate about business education’s role in solving global challenges. With sound judgment and a deep commitment to excellence and impact, you will inspire students, staff, faculty, and alumni, drive innovation, and shape the future of business education in Canada and beyond.

You can apply for this position through this application portal. Please forward any questions about the role or the process to Michael Naufal (mnaufal@boyden.com) and / or Mike Young (myoung@boyden.com).

Queen’s University invites applications from all qualified individuals and is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace. In accordance with Canadian Immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Support will be made available to applicants with disabilities, including accommodation that takes into account an applicant's accessibility needs. Candidates requiring accommodation during the recruitment process should reach out to Michael Naufal and / or Mike Young.
