Position Summary
Bow Valley College is seeking an innovative and strategic Learning Design Consultant (LDC) to join our Centre for Academic Innovation. Reporting to the Associate Dean, the LDC is a curriculum and innovation strategist responsible for developing end-to-end learning programs and courses that align with the Colleges strategic priorities. From conducting labor market research and job task analysis to full implementation within the learning management system, the LDC plays a vital role in shaping high-quality, workforce-relevant education for learners.
As an expert in contemporary teaching and learning practices, including Competency-Based Education (CBE), performance-based assessment, adult learning principles, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI), the LDC contributes to institutional transformation by coaching others in instructional design and mentoring teams engaged in curriculum development and implementation.
Working collaboratively with subject matter experts, media specialists, online delivery officers, Indigenous Learning Consultants, and operational staff, the LDC ensures curriculum is inclusive, culturally responsive, and adaptable to evolving labor market needs. They also leverage AI-enabled tools and structured prompt engineering to support the creation of competency frameworks, assessments, and modular learning pathways.
In addition to leading curriculum design, some LDCs may support professional learning by helping instructors and program teams apply effective teaching strategies, integrate digital tools, and align instructional practices with institutional models such as CBE. The role requires strong project management skills, including the ability to coordinate timelines, manage deliverables, and facilitate co-design sessions with program teams. Above all, LDCs model professionalism, adaptability, and service-oriented collaboration in every project.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelors degree in Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, or a related field, along with 46 years of experience in instructional design and / or Competency-Based education program development. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to lead curriculum projects and produce strategic, high-quality deliverables aligned with institutional priorities. An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.
Preferred qualifications include a masters degree in Education, Curriculum, or Instructional Design; experience mentoring others in instructional design; and a background in applied, modular, or performance-based learning. Additional assets include experience in teaching or developing skills-based programs, delivering professional learning sessions, and familiarity with competency frameworks, modular curriculum architecture, or consulting in post-secondary or training organizations.
