About the Role
Our public sector client is seeking a Senior IT Project Manager for a 6‑month, full‑time contract, with the possibility of up to a 12‑month extension. The Senior PM will be required on a full time basis (7.25 hour work day, 36.25 hours per week) and is responsible for the coordination and completion of IT projects. The role oversees all aspects of projects, sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, takes minutes, records risks in the register, and monitors progress. The Senior PM builds and maintains working relationships with team members, vendors and other departments, and prepares reports for upper management on project status.
The position is responsible for facilitating the decision‑making process of executive management. Decisions are based on evidence rather than theory and are often complex. The PM interacts and consults with business clients, internal and external resources, and stakeholders as required.
Duties
- Experience in managing a complex Human Resources Information System (HRIS) project(s) adhering to legislated policy and guidelines within the public sector.
- Experience documenting briefing notes or similar project status reports to executive steering committees at the ministerial level.
- Proven track record of managing project resources efficiently to meet project goals.
- Compile project charters and business / project plans to support activities, ensuring business objectives and data integrity are achieved.
- Manage project(s) that document business requirements, design and deliver IT solutions compliant with and contributing to the ministries’ enterprise architecture.
- Assist with the development of recommendations, including details of resource requirements, dependencies, policy implications, and methodology.
- Produce and package deliverables for presentation to various internal support teams, steering committees, and other stakeholders.
- Manage multiple projects, project resources, and governance.
- Work with sponsors to ensure effective communication throughout the project, escalating risks as required.
- Take responsibility for client satisfaction – manage peer‑level client relationships and resolve hurdles for win‑win solutions.
- Collaborate with business and IT leadership to develop a clear project plan stating objectives, scope, assumptions, timeline, resources, risks, benefits, and budget.
- Work with sponsors and the PMO to develop a project organization structure with defined roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders.
- Document and report project status against objectives, milestones, budget and resources, facilitating tracking and closure of issues and risks.
- Develop project schedule plans and strategies, estimate resources, monitor work, and take corrective action for task completion.
- Provide guidance to project resources on priorities and prompt delivery.
- Develop related requirements documentation as needed.
- Assess project outcomes with sponsors, identifying improvement opportunities for future projects.
- Provide leadership and assistance for change management and communication support.
- Work within PMO standards or help define new standards.
Equipment Requirements
Resource must provide own computer and related equipment, with an operating system compatible with Azure Virtual Desktop (modern Windows or macOS). Windows is preferred.The contractor is directed to work remotely; the contractor shall be responsible for all equipment, including computers, software, printers, supplies, desks and chairs.Working Hours
Standard hours : 08 : 15 – 16 : 30 Alberta time, Monday through Friday, excluding provincial holidays.Work must be performed from within Canada.The contractor will primarily work remotely but may be required to attend office meetings on reasonable notice; travel expenses are at no cost to the client.Clients located within the Edmonton area are expected to attend meetings one or two times per month; those outside the province attend one meeting per quarter.Background Check
The supplier shall, prior to commencement, provide the client, on request and at no cost, with criminal record checks.Requirements
Education
Currently active PMP or PGMP Certification issued by the Project Management Institute or equivalent (attach certificate).
The candidate must meet or exceed ONE of the following :
University graduation in business, management or related discipline, and 4 years of project management experience; OR2‑year diploma in business, management or related discipline, and 6 years of project management experience; OR1‑year certificate in business, management or related discipline, and 7 years of project management experience; OR8 years of project management experience.Work Experience
8 years experience defining project scope and goals in collaboration with business stakeholders.4 years experience developing project deliverables including charters, business cases, briefing notes, status reports, risk logs and closures.8 years experience in a project management role.4 years experience planning, designing, implementing and supporting platform solutions in an enterprise IT environment of comparable size and complexity.Further requirements available upon request.
