Position Summary :
The Director of Budget & Financial Planning leads university-wide budget operations, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies, coordinating financial reporting, and developing strategic plans.
The Director collaborates with campus leadership and represents the university in various settings.
Key Responsibilities :
- Resource Planning and Development (30%)
- Manage a process to solicit and review current and projected needs of all academic and administrative units.
- Research, analyze, and present financial and enrollment information related to the development and management of the University’s budget.
- Forecast the University’s financial position, including assumptions, risks, and recommendations for changes.
- Develop and recommend policies to support prudent budget management.
- Manage systems and processes for capital budget management and long-range strategic financial planning.
- University Budget Management (25%)
- Work collaboratively with the AVP of Financial Operations and CFO to draft the university and division annual operating budgets.
- Partner with division leaders to refine division annual operating budgets.
- Develop, implement, and manage the University budget, including maintenance of position inventory.
- Create and maintain clear financial forecasts.
- Provide advice and guidance to executive leadership on budget issues.
- Financial Reporting and Compliance (15%)
- Produce budget reports and updates for the campus.
- Ensure compliance with directives and regulations from the CSU Chancellor’s Office.
- Transparency, Communication, and Collaboration (15%)
- Lead a team that works transparently and collaboratively.
- Facilitate open communication and create meaningful educational experiences.
- Supervision, Management, and Development (10%)
- Supervise staff within the University Budget Office.
- Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals.
- Foster inclusivity and teamwork.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Demonstrated knowledge in program management.
- Advanced financial, analytical, and planning skills.
- Knowledge of financial management systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, or related field.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a similar setting.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.
- Experience within the California State University system.
- Experience in Higher Education.
