Roads Planning Technician (Seasonal)

OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Woodlands Superintendent, the Roads Planning Technician provides technical support to the Operations Superintendent for the implementation of Corner Brook Pulp and Paper’s annual roads program.
This is a seasonal position, expected to run from May until the end of October.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The candidate will be responsible for the following :
- Supervise road construction contractors and ensure field work is completed safely.
- Adhere to and promote company safety and environmental policies.
- Ensure Environmental Protection Guidelines are incorporated into road building operations.
- Supervise all major stream crossing installations (bridge and culverts >
1200mm).
- Act as liaison between Company and regulatory agencies.
- Apply for environmental approvals and development permits as required.
- Maintain completion reports.
- Carry out regular inspections of construction projects.
- Oversee forest access roads program to ensure appropriate engineering control on culvert requirements, road specifications, road design, culvert installation, bridge design and construction, tender and contract preparation, and monitoring, inspection, and progress, cost control, reporting, and year end report.
- Maintain annual cost tracking for all roads to ensure road program is completed on time and on budget.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must have :
- Process Forest Technician Certification.
- Education in Forestry, Forestry Engineering, or Civil Engineering preferred.
- Previous experience working in Forestry or Road Construction.
- Working knowledge of the assembly and placement of panel bridges would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and lead a crew.
- Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
- Proficient use of computers (Microsoft Suite, CMMS, typing).
