Power System Operator

We are looking for an experienced operator to monitor, control and direct the safe, stable and reliable operation of substation and transmission facilities at our Baseplant location.
Minimum Requirements :
- Five or more years of related experience in operations of electrical utility equipment including a thorough knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution
- Electrical or Electronics Technology Diploma from a recognized institute of technology or college
- Journeyman Power System Operator
- NERC certification would be an asset
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record
Responsibilities :
- Operate and manage the power systems within the accepted and normal operating limits
- Acknowledge and interpret real time SCADA alarms as well as implement immediate and appropriate response to address alarms
- Coordinate work with other organizations such as Maintenance, Protection and Automation to aid in resolving real time power system SCADA alarms and / or abnormal operating conditions
- Perform electrical system remote switching operations in coordination with Transmission and Distribution (T&D) field switchmen for all planned and unplanned switching requirements
- Prepare, design and issue switching orders for System Authority (OIC) reviews based on outage requests and directions from system authority and operations management.
Switching orders may be for planned activities, for urgent unplanned requirements or for outage response
- Submit regular shift reports and maintain records of shift operating information for management and as per Suncor requirements
- Develop Hazardous Energy Isolation (HEI) forms and switching orders for all electrical assets under T&D operating jurisdiction as well as support development of operating procedures
- Perform field walk downs in support of the 13.8kV electrical system
- Issue Safe Work Permits for T&D operating jurisdictions and areas
Location and other Key Details :
- The shift schedule is a 3 day / 3 night / 6 off; 12 hour shifts
- You will work out of our Base plant location in Fort McMurray, AB
- This position is safety sensitive
