Duration : 8 weeks, 35 hours per week
DeafBlind Ontario Services supports people who are deafblind, as well as people who are Deaf, hard of hearing and non-verbal with a developmental disability.
Specialized services are customized to each person’s unique needs, method of communication, and goals to live their best life.
Job Duties :
- Adheres to the philosophy of do with not for’; assists people supported in realizing their potential
- Builds skill and knowledge in the persons preferred mode of language / communication i.e. ASL, SEE, LSQ
- Follows activity plans, based on the individuals weekly personal plans
- Assists with activities of daily living, completes log notes and reports
- Maintains accurate and confidential information, records and reports for each individual supported
- Prepares and / or assists with meal preparation and healthy food choices
- Assists in the overall upkeep and maintenance of the home
- Promotes the values of the Organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with other agency staff, families, volunteers, advocates, and employers.
- Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within DeafBlind Ontario Services policies and procedures and provincial legislation.
- Performs other related duties as required
Requirements :
To be eligible for this position through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, you must :
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
