National Coordinator, Research and Mental Health Programs

We’re currently seeking a National Coordinator, Research and Mental Health Programs to join our team in this new position.

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer, you will be responsible for administering Breakthrough T1D research programs uniformly and in accordance with processes established to ensure sound oversight and compliance.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to support a variety of functions for development and administration of the organization’s mental health programs, including the Mental Health + Diabetes Training Program and Directory and the organization’s Mental Health and T1D Community Grants Program.

Here’s what your primary responsibilities would be :

  • Pro-actively manage, analyze and report on the Breakthrough T1D Canada grants portfolio.
  • Provide continuity of award administration by managing all administrative aspects of Breakthrough T1D Canada grants in both pre- and post-award phases.
  • Ensure all awards are managed in accordance with approved policies and procedures for audit compliance, and help problem-solve, recommending course corrections as necessary.
  • Liaise with Breakthrough T1D International staff, Grantee Institutions, and Principal Investigators to communicate around business and operational specifics of the Canadian research portfolio.
  • Identify grant management system issues and / or areas of improvement, working with internal and external system administration staff to problem-solve.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and representative with the research community for Breakthrough T1D awards held in Canada, fostering trust and transparency through clear, consistent communications and expectations.
  • Escalate project-level delays or anomalies to supervisor and strictly follow process workflows to ensure timely resolution and progression of Breakthrough T1D-funded projects.
  • Maintain all grant agreements and Memorandum Of Understandings pertaining to research partnerships, and monitor compliance.
  • Serve as the in-house expert on Breakthrough T1D’s portal, RMS360, and extract relevant information from the database for distribution to appropriate Canadian stakeholders.
  • Support the administration and evaluation of Breakthrough T1Ds Mental Health + Diabetes Training Program while assisting in developing governance processes.

Here’s what we’re looking for :

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

  • Bachelors of Arts / Sciences and 2-4 years of non-profit and / or grant management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong project management and time management skills; highly organized and detail oriented
  • Financial acumen and contract management experience
  • Strong computer skills (including competency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel)
  • Ability to plan, carry out and interpret analysis of data related to program outcomes
  • Proven ability to think and problem-solve creatively
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with great latitude for independent judgment and initiative
  • Be able to achieve success by employing logical, systematic thinking managing multiple priorities in a highly dynamic environment
  • Ability to set and revise policies and procedures while brokering buy-in from all stakeholders
  • Demonstrated capacity to frame complex situations and present options
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to provide guidance to people with a wide range of cultural backgrounds, training and experience
  • Enjoy working independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to bring recommendations for process improvement to Research and Mental Health programs
  • Fluency in French, both written and verbal a significant asset

The salary range for this role is anticipated to be $55,000 - $60,000, commensurate with skills and experience level of the selected candidate.

Location Preference : Flexible within Canada We are a remote-first organization so it is expected the incumbent in this role will work remotely from home.
