Barrett Truss & Building Supplies Ltd has been family owned and operated for 98 years specializing in supplying building materials, project estimating services, roof truss design & manufacturing, and engineered wood product design
Reporting to the Manager, Engineered Wood Products, the designer will prepare designs, layouts, quotations and take-offs for roof trusses and engineered wood products.
As the designer, you will work closely with customers and contractors to review plans and specifications for projects in the residential and light commercial sectors.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare computer designs and layouts for engineered wood products from plans and specifications.
- Coordinates project requirements with the building material department.
- Work closely with customers and contractors to review designs and quotations.
- Prepare take-offs, estimates, quotations, work orders, shop drawings, and shipping information.
- Establish, maintain, and increase customer base for Truss, engineered wood products.
- Co-ordinate production requirements with the shop foreman and manager, engineered wood products.
- Complete site measurements or arrange to have measured (if required).
- Build relationships with existing customers and engage new customers to create more sales opportunities for other building materials.
- Effectively communicate the advantages of Barrett Truss & Building Supplies products compared to other options in the market.
Required Qualifications and Skills :
- Proficient in computer aided drafting (CAD) and technically confident to learn new design software’s.
- Skilled in building code requirements.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to help customers close sales.
- Excellent understanding of the technical requirements for residential construction projects.
- Knowledge of building materials, building codes, and construction experience are considered an asset.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Exceptional customer service skills to maintain a professional and positive attitude.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and willingness to learn and adapt.
- Excellent communication skills and possess the ability to work independently with little supervision.
- A diploma or degree in construction technology, engineering, architectural technology, a trade certificate or equivalent related work experience.
