Job Summary :
The hands-onmanager of the ACE Fabrication Space requires a licensed and experiencedmachinist and / or tool maker. This position also includes the management ofR&D, commercialization, and demonstration projects.
This requires thedevelopment of investment, the managing of procurement and implementation, thedevelopment of lead times and resources and technical andmanufacturing supervision.
Nature of Work & Responsibilities :
The ACE Fabrication Manager reports to the ACE Executive Director and leads projects that require specialized andinnovative approaches and builds.
This includes the assembling and managing ofproject teams for timelines and implementation milestones.
This position requires a hands-on manager to provide technical supervision& mentorship sharing technical knowledge and experience with internalengineers and technicians to ensure products can be designed and built in anefficient manner.
The position is responsible for managing and performing all machining and fabrication processes, advancedmanufacturing, specification and implementation of all equipment, shop designand process flow including safety and hazardous material handling.
The Manager must have technical expertise in the operation of all machining and fabrication equipment.
The position is responsible for all aspects of safety within the fabrication shop. This entailsmaking sure all machines and equipment are in good repair and maintainedproperly, following safety protocols and lab rules.
This includes all hazardousmaterials management, and risk management.
The Manager oversees the business management & purchasing responsibilities for maintaining suitablelevels of supplies on hand in the fabrication shop.
This includes, checkinginventory levels of tools and consumables, finding suppliers, placing orders,and ensuring payments are made.
The Manager reviews and provides feedback on designs, fabrication, assembly and commissioningof specialized machines, fixtures, tooling, and one-off prototype builds.
This requires direct communication with external industry clients as well asacademic researchers of all project requirements.
This also includes thedevelopment of detailed specifications and often leading the procurement ofmaterials, tools, and equipment.
The Manager is the key resource for maintenance leading critical elements of the scheduled andannualized maintenance and repair of essential ACE CRF chambers and processes.
This includes the collaborative development of long-term solutions andcontinuous improvement of ACE CRF equipment and processes with ACE Engineersand Technicians.
This position is also critical for unscheduled and emergency repairs requiringmanufacturing and fabrication solutions.
Maintaining all specialized ACE Fabrication Shop equipment and tools.
The Manager is in direct collaboration with project staff, and direct supervision of limited termfull time and part time employees dependent on project requirements.
This includes handson training to Engineers, Technicians and Engineering Students, Interns &Co-ops. The Manager advises student capstone projects being worked on in the fabrication shop.
The Manager ensures all safety protocols are being followed throughout ACE and the fabricationshop.
ACE is a multi-shift operation that include afternoons and weekends. Thecandidate must be prepared to work irregular hours.
Successful applicants mustbe flexible to work varying hours and / or shifts. There may be occasionaltravel requirements.
Operational hours comprise of core hours of 8 am to 12 : 00midnight. Generally, the core shifts are 8am to 4pm, 4pm-12 midnight or 12 noonto 8 pm (Monday -Friday) but occasionally may include weekends.
However,candidate must be prepared to work flexible hours, start and stop timesdependent on the client’s requirements. This position is required to bephysically present on-site.
The Manager must always demonstrate professional behavior when dealing with customers,management, and co-workers and must have clear, concise, and accuratecommunication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Grooming and dressmust be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to selfor to others. The successful candidate must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving andcommunicating in a professional manner and must maintain a valid driver’s licence & be Controlled Goods eligible.
