Preferred Qualifications :
1. A mechanic degree is preferred, must hold a Michigan mechanic license
2. Three years’ prior experience in transportation management, fleet maintenance, and pupil transportation.
3. A valid Michigan driver’s license
4. Have or be able to obtain a CDL B, P, and S endorsement, with air brakes.
Skills & Abilities
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and / or community members.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Job Responsibilities
- Direct the development, implementation, and supervision of the student transportation system for regular and special education students and co-curricular activities.
- Provide direction for bus route planning and implementation, budget assessment and monitoring, assessment of road conditions during inclement weather, garage equipment management, and garage operations.
- Ensure adequate maintenance and repair records are maintained for district vehicles and equipment.
- Prepare for annual State Police bus inspections.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all systems, including the ability to operate shop equipment.
- Attend quarterly supervisor meetings at ISD.
- Direct the process for recruitment, selection, training, monitoring, and retention, of all departmental personnel; the organization of programs for training and administration of personnel policies and contractual agreements as related to department personnel.
- Prepare a departmental budget for transportation operations. Control costs as budgeted and report variances.
- Recommends and enforces district policies, regulations, and department procedures while maintaining cooperative relationships with all district organizations and community members.
- Assist the snow plowing contractors with snow removal, shoveling steps, and sand / salt parking lots at all three buildings.
- Cleaning and maintaining the transportation facility as needed.
- Driving a bus route will be required when a driver calls in sick and no substitutes are available.
