Job Summary

The Interprofessional Practice Clinical Facilitator role is designed for experienced RNs with frontline experience to provide mentorship and leadership to new graduate and novice nurses to support their transition into the workforce.

Types of nurses supported include nursing graduates, novice nurses, nurses transitioning into specialty areas, internationally educated nurses (IENs) and nurses completing the Accelerated Critical Care Program (ACC) hereafter referred to as nurses .

Interprofessional Practice Clinical Facilitators are responsible for :

  • In collaboration with clinical managers and educators, conduct ongoing learning needs assessments to support identified departmental and individual learning needs relative to improvement opportunities and ensure alignment with corporate and program priorities
  • Supporting nursing practice and integration into the clinical area in accordance with organizational and professional standards, alongside the designated mentor and clinical educator.
  • Provide leadership, role modeling, clinical coaching, mentoring and the provision of educational activities to enhance knowledge transfer / uptake to achieve quality patient outcomes, staff empowerment and professional development

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support integration of nurses at the organizational and unit level
  • Aid in integration of team processes and role clarity
  • Assist nurses to become familiar with the work in their new area of practice
  • Maintain regular unit presence to support ongoing education needs and reinforcement of required skills attainment by using a hands-on, real-time approach
  • Support corporate education project rollouts and sustainability
  • Use a patient and family centered approach when assisting nurses with providing hands-on care
  • Promote nurses’ wellness and team well being
  • Serve as a liaison and conduit between the unit leadership, clinical educator and Interprofessional Practice.

Qualifications

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in frontline care in various hospital clinic settings including medicine, surgery, cancer and palliative care, emergency, or critical care required and competencies to provide mentorship to newly graduated nurses required
  • Excellent clinical, communication and coaching skills and competencies
  • Previous experience teaching, working with learners and / or preceptoring / mentoring required
  • Safe Management Group (SMG) training required
  • Knowledge and expertise with central venous access devices and complex wound care is required
  • CC1, CC2, ACLS, and being a RNAO BPSO Champion preferred
  • Critical care and / or Emergency nursing certificate preferred
  • Preceptor workshop and / or Formal Mentorship program attendance preferred
  • Adult Education certificate an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership, change management, problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and ability to recognize hospital-wide perspectives
  • Demonstrates understanding of infection prevention and control practices and emergency procedures
  • Demonstrates computer literacy working with Microsoft Excel, Office and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all
  • Commitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and clients within a challenging and exciting health care environment
  • Passion for supporting and growing the nursing workforce through role-modeling and professional development
  • Models behaviour that is aligned with the values of Southlake Regional Health Centre

As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department.
