Senior Network Administrator

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of :

SENIOR NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR -TAMAANI INTERNET SERVICES

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Network Operations, the Senior Network Administrator supports and maintains KRG’s satellite and local distribution networks.

The Network Administrator is also responsible for the design, implementation of newnetwork services, as well as providing documentation, procedures and training to Internet Services staff.

TASKS :

• Maintain and configure devices related to satellite networking. This includes satellitemodems, SSPAs, Cisco routers, bandwidth shapers and protocol network accelerators;
• Maintain, configure and install devices related to a wireless broadband Internet Service and wireless LAN. This includes Huwaei LTE modems and Redline AN80i and 3K technology;
• Monitor the network for outages, congestion or problems;
• Provide level 3 support to customer service representatives for network related issues;
• Ensure proper documentation of all systems related network activities and infrastructure;
• Assist with the management of the Internet service billing system;
• Provide technical training to junior and intermediate technical staff;
• Coordinate network emergency response with local agents and intervene in person if necessary;
• Maintain an inventory of spare equipment and parts for emergency repairs;
• Advise the Coordinator of Network Operations and the Assistant Director on infrastructure changes and future requirements;
• Perform any other related tasks as requested by the direct supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• College leveldiploma in network technology;
• 5 years of experience as network administrator;
• Cisco certification and prior experience working with wireless networking an asset;
• In depth knowledge of TCP / IP networking and routing protocols (IP, TCP, OSPF, IGRP) and Ethernet switching protocols (802.1p,802.1q)
• Knowledge of fibre networks including FTTH and FTTB
• Working knowledge of H.323 and other video networking protocols;
• Functional knowledge of IP QoS (Diffserv, ToS, etc), traffic shaping its application in an ISP class network;
• Knowledge of encryption technology (IPSEC, SSL), satellite, wireless or RF knowledge an asset;
• Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve unforeseen network problems;
• Ability to transfer his / her knowledge to others; Strong focus on customer service oriented personality;
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing in at least two of the following languages : Inuktitut, English, French; working knowledge of Inuktitut is a definite asset;
• Must be available to occasionally work overtime, outside office hours and be available on-call;
• Must be able to travel regularly and, for emergencies, with little notice.

Salary : $62,011 to $106,403 yearly
