Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Director, Finance Operations, the role is responsible for providing overall support to the various Operations Accounting teams, ensuring appropriate financial reporting and management, as well as governance and compliance.
This Corporate-based role will work closely with the various Finance, Operations, and Project groups at both the Corporate Office and the Operating Sites.
This role will also manage accounting and financial reporting matters for Kinross' Great Bear project including direct oversight of the responsibilities and performance of the Analyst, Great Bear Accounting, as it relates to the month end close, monthly / quarterly reporting and analysis, budgeting / forecasting, application of corporate policies (such as IFRS, processes and controls), and other finance related matters.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Supports the Finance functions of Kinross' global operating sites :
- Assists operating sites with month end reporting processes, including reviews of results.
- Prepares and communicates Segregation of Duties, Procure-to-Pay and other finance-related KPI metrics on a monthly and quarterly basis and advises operating sites on improvement plans, as appropriate.
- Acts as key advisory resource to Kinross' operating sites for finance, accounting and controls related matters including ad-hoc projects, including recommending and supporting the implementation of financial procedures and controls to maximize operational efficiencies and to maintain a strong control environment.
- Provides J.D. Edwards ERP benchmarking and best practices support to sites.
- Reviews and provides input to Life-of-Mine plans, Budgets, and Forecast models, as well as ad-hoc financial reviews of ad-hoc projects and / or studies.
- Ensures high level understanding of all operating site inventory models. Provides assistance to sites in handling unique mine operational issues.
2. Manages activities related to the accounting and internal financial reporting for Kinross' Great Bear project, including :
- Manages the accounting function by independently coordinating the execution of month, quarter, and year end reporting procedures and controls.
- Prepares complex month end journal entries by compiling and analyzing the account information and supporting documentation.
- Reviews and posts journal entries prepared by Analyst, Great Bear Accounting.
- Performs GL Account reviews and ensures that transactions are accurate, complete, and correctly classified.
- Performs and reviews Balance Sheet reconciliations.
- Leads and manages the Capital Spend and Fixed Assets ledger reviews, including timely capitalization of completed projects, disposals, asset counts, depreciation, etc.
- Ensures compliance with industry, regulatory (Tax, ESTMA, ESG, IFRS, etc.) and operational requirements.
- Adheres to all month / quarter end deadlines and coordinates and communicates directly with site teams and other corporate departments as applicable.
- Liaises and works with both internal and external auditors.
- Recommends and implements improvements to financial procedures and controls to maximize operational efficiencies and to maintain a strong control environment.
- Provides support and gives advice to Management and Finance team members on routine and non-routine transactions.
- Investigates, researches, and analyzes information and issues related to internal accounting.
- Analyzes operational and financial results on a Monthly / Quarterly / Annual basis.
- Prepares monthly reports analyzing the results for internal distribution to allow management to understand the results and key issues.
- Provides financial analysis support to various departments and raises key issues to the Great Bear management team.
- Assists in budget / forecast process, including the preparation of key reports and presentations to the Great Bear and Corporate management teams.
3. Liaises with external auditor, especially as it pertains to the US sites :
- Responds to external audit queries relating to the operating sites and the application of Kinross accounting policies.
- Works closely with the Financial Reporting group to proactively address complex accounting issues, relating to the operating sites, on a timely basis.
- Coordinates the timely return of effective and efficient financial reporting packages from the operating sites.
4. Other ad-hoc projects and advisory support :
- Works with the Director, Operations Accounting as well as IT Business Analysts on projects to continuously improve processes in areas of responsibility noted above, including identifying and acting on potential gaps in current processes and controls, and working with internal stakeholders to ensure that their needs are met.
- Works closely with the Corporate and operating site Supply Chain Management teams to maintain appropriate governance practices, including effective inventory management.
- Helps address key accounting issues.
Education and Experience
- Professional accounting designation (e.g. CPA, ACCA, CMA) or similar.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience, including some experience working in a publicly listed reporting issuer.
- Previous experience working in a controllership and / or FP&A function in mining or related resources industries is an asset.

- Knowledge and practical experience with data analytics tools such as Power BI or similar.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as required to prepare and review written analysis and obtain information from sites and corporate personnel from other areas of the business.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with ability to work independently and to establish priorities.
- Ability to be flexible and responsive with regards to tasks and priorities.
- Adherence to the highest ethical standards, demonstrating honesty, integrity, and transparency in actions at all times.
- Ability to travel to the sites as required for short periods (10% - 20%).
