Position : Sprinkler Fitter Fireman

GreenFirst is looking for a Sprinkler Fitter Fireman to lay out, install, repair, maintain, modify, inspect and test fire protection systems in a variety of settings.
This position also offers the opportunity for an on-site Apprenticeship for candidates that are interested in pursuing a career in this field.

Responsibilities :
- Perform preventative maintenance on mill, pumphouse and related equipment monitored by the Fireman.
- Fabricate, inspect, install, and repair equipment, provide analysis, and evaluate concerns and major repairs.
- Adhere to GreenFirst Code Of Ethics and treat fellow workers with dignity and respect.
- Report and address environmental spills immediately
- Maintain Papermill Housekeeping Standards. Fill out pre-job checklist for every new job on a daily basis.
- Facilitate execution of Fire / Hot Work Permits
- Ensure all lock outs are identified and all procedures are followed and ensure all mill safety policies are being followed
- Inspect pump house and equipment, deluge systems and alarms, inspect and adjust sprinkler dry valve pre-action valve and air pad system, jockey fire pump in south boiler house basement, fire hose stations, fire hydrants, PIV valves, sprinkler shut off valves, fire doors, inside valves,
- Test fire pumps, sprinkler alarms and flow alarms
- Repair fire extinguishers, maintain inventory of fire extinguishers and sprinkler supplies
- Check diesel fire pump fuel tank. Shovel outside PIV, pump house and hydrants in winter
- Ship out SCBA and fire extinguishers for hydro testing, also refill SCBA air bottles and sanitize masks; send air sample for testing
- Winterize equipment and hydrant flushing. Flush dry systems
- Clean pump house screen and replace wind socks, flags. Change sprinkler heads
- Annual dry valve trip testing
- Fit test employees for appropriate masks
- Provide emergency response to equipment failures
- Respond to fire calls
- Reports to Mechanical Supervisor, indirectly reports to Health and Safety Superintendent for plant protection.
- Identify training opportunities.
Requirements :
- Preference given to candidates holding one or more of the following certificates : Sprinkler and Fire Protection Shower Installer 427A, Steam Fitter 307A, Plumber 306A
- 1-3 Years relevant experience in an industrial setting
- Open to receiving applications from candidates interested in an Apprenticeship opportunity.
