Job Summary

The Team

An integral member of a multi-disciplinary community Child and Youth Mental Health Team and in coordination with other community agencies and professionals, you provide a range of mental health services to children, youth and their families, when the child or youth is suffering from serious emotional, psychological, behavioural or psychiatric illness.

The child and youth mental health team is made up of multi-disciplinary clinicians and support workers that work in community and rural areas.

The team is dedicated to improving the mental health and wellness of Indigenous and non-Indigenous children, youth and families providing services such as individual, family and group counselling.

The Role

As a Mental Health Support Worker you will provide a range of mental health services to children, youth and families such as counselling support and education, contact with community agencies, and development of early intervention programs.

You must be an effective communicator with a collaborative approach and able to demonstrate initiative and good judgment when establishing vital working relationships with staff, the community and other stakeholders.

You are able to work effectively in a team environment, while also independently managing your own work.

Qualifications :

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Child and Youth Care, or equivalent field of study.
  • NOTE : If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ).

You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working in child and youth mental health services.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following :

  • Two (2) or more years experience working in child and youth mental health services.
  • Applicants who self-identify as having an Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

About this Position :

An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent an / or temporary vacancies in these and other communities throughout the province.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement

A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required.

Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO APPLICANTS

Terrace is currently eligible for a retention incentive which is available to all regular permanent Social Program Officers residing in Hard To Recruit (HTR) designated communities across the province.

In addition to the re-imbursement of relocation costs (where applicable), the incentive program provides the following :

  • Up to a maximum of $6,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers in the SPO R18 to SPO R30 classifications* OR
  • Up to a maximum of $3,000 annual lump sum payment to regular permanent full-time Social Program Officers placed in the SPO Growth Series (SPO Growth to SPO R24 classifications)
