Role Overview
The General Laborer plays a vital role in supporting construction activities by performing a variety of on-site tasks. This role requires physical endurance, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
The General Laborer contributes to the smooth operation of the project by maintaining site organization, assisting skilled tradespeople, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Site Preparation and Maintenance
- Prepare construction sites by clearing debris, organizing materials, and setting up tools and equipment.
- Ensure work areas are clean and free of hazards, maintaining a safe environment for all workers.
- Assist with site setup and teardown, including temporary fencing and barriers.
Material Handling
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials and equipment to designated areas.
- Operate basic equipment and hand tools for material handling, adhering to safety protocols.
- Assist in storing materials securely to prevent damage or wastage.
Support for Skilled Trades
- Assist skilled workers, such as carpenters, masons, and surveyors, with routine tasks as needed.
- Mix and pour concrete, dig trenches, and perform other labor-intensive tasks under supervision.
- Follow instructions from supervisors to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Adherence to Safety Protocols
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times and follow safety guidelines.
- Report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to the site supervisor.
- Participate in mandatory safety training and toolbox talks.
General Repairs and Maintenance
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance tasks, such as fixing fences, assembling scaffolding, and other on-site duties.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are properly cleaned and stored after use.
Qualifications and Requirements
Experience :
Previous experience in construction or a similar labor-intensive role is preferred but not required.
Skills and Knowledge :
- Familiarity with basic hand and power tools is an advantage.
- Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently under supervision.
Physical Requirements :
- Must be physically fit and capable of lifting heavy objects, bending, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Soft Skills :
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate with crew members and supervisors.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
