Ozanam Recovery House is an 18-bed recovery home in Kelowna for men struggling with addiction and mental health issues. We are a project of the Society of St Vincent de Paul and are partnered with BC Housing, licensed through the Assisted Living Act of British Columbia.
Currently, we are looking for casual support workers to work on-call, typically to cover fulltime staff vacation or sick days.
We cannot guarantee hours, but our casuals are generally able to work a lot. Shifts potentially needing coverage are seven days a week and either 8am-4pm or 2pm-10pm.
Job Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the General Manager, using principles of respect and dignity, this position is responsible for providing daily support to the residents of Ozanam Recovery House in developing a support network they can utilize while they move toward their recovery goals.
As a member of the team, you will be responsible for the implementation of residents’ plans, assisting with medications and reporting on progress.
Some cooking and cleaning can be a part of the position. You will also be responsible for establishing working linkages with other community service networks.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of community resources and service providers and an ability to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with them
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to function as a team player, follow direction and complete tasks on time
- Sound judgment, good initiative and organizational skills
- Ability to respond to crises and urgent response situations
- Knowledge of computers and Microsoft programs
- A degree or diploma in the Human Service Field preferred
- Maintain certification in First Aid and Food Safe
- A criminal record check through the Criminal Records Review Program is required
