Qualifications and Experience
Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for) Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the middle years level Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills Experience / training / knowledge of Social Emotional Learning.
Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity Knowledge or experience with alternate education programs Ability to work with students exhibiting moderate to sever behaviour Ability to remain calm and regulated in potentially heightened situations Knowledge or understanding of trauma-informed practice Qualifications or ability to teach other subjects at the middle years level Ability to work collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team with families to enhance and strengthen their skills in supporting their children in the school, home and community.
Ability and willingness to be a Teacher Advisor as part of our TAG and House system. Experience, training, or knowledge of PBIS and Social-Emotional Learning practices would be an asset.
Demonstrated ability to utilize computers or technology for teaching, assessment and reporting. Ability to supervise and schedule support workers (Educational Assistants or Youth Care Workers).
Ability to collaboratively establish programs for developing social skills, self-esteem, anger and anxiety management, bullying prevention and coping with peer pressure.
Experience with Functional Analysis of Behaviour and Behaviour Intervention Plans. Ability to develop and maintain Individual Education Plans (IEP) in consultation with the school-based team, case managers and, if necessary, outside agencies.
Commitment to participate in team-based meetings as required by student needs, outside agencies and learning support staff.
Ability / experience with co-teaching and supporting in the classroom. Interested applicants are required to supply Three (3) references Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) Compensation $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas $2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE) Salary as per collective agreement.
Current salary grid is $63,492 - $108,576 Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance.
