Summary :

Reporting to the VP of Pipeline & Operations, the successful candidate will be a high functioning individual who is looking to be part of an evolving animation space leading Canadian animation company located in Ottawa.

The Pipeline Technical Director will support and speak into high profile productions, working closely with the VP of Pipeline & Operations, Director of Production and Department Leads.

This role will require a solution focused mindset that can balance priorities and timelines for the different stakeholders.

This is a pivotal role which requires expert knowledge of Harmony with serious experience in the production of animated television series.

Role and Responsibilities :

  • Optimize and maintain procedures and techniques on animated films and series productions.
  • Works with artistic leads, production, and IT teams to discover the best and timely solutions
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day pipeline issues that arise during production.
  • Consults on all internal and external project dependencies, and deliverables
  • Leads technical development teams in identifying problem areas and develop plans for improving productions and workflows.
  • Develops tools, scripts, and / or plugins to help automate or improve workflows
  • Help and identify with department leads tools that are needed, including possible wish list items
  • Develop content creation guidelines and help enforce them through tools and reminders as necessary
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for the pipeline, including software tools, scripts, workflows, as well as providing guidance on best practices for using the pipeline.

Skills & Qualifications :

  • 2-5+ years’ experience as an animation Technical Artist and / or Technical Director
  • Must have thorough knowledge of 2D & CG computer animation.
  • Expert knowledge of Qt Script, JavaScript, shell script and Python scripting languages
  • Proficient in Linux (Cent OS / RHEL) and Windows 10 OS environment including its file structure
  • Understanding the fundamentals of rendering / render farm
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Ability to mentor / educate team members
  • Strong scripting and technical artist abilities
  • Effective and professional communication skills
  • Competency (preferably fluency) in Adobe Photoshop, Toon Boom Harmony and Shotgrid

What would make you stand out :

  • Working knowledge of the Autodesk Maya pipeline
  • Preproduction and Postproduction experience or knowledge
  • Good understanding of computer networking, port forwarding, TCP / UDP, DHCP, etc...
  • Experience in managing samba and NFS file sharing
