Manager, Software Engineering (Edge Traffic)

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Traffic Eng team owns critical routing and network infrastructure to run affirm's core product. They are responsible for building and exposing simple interfaces of online infrastructure components. Examples of components we own include the CDN edge routing layer to cache and optimize requests to affirm.com, the RPC layer for internal service-to-service communication, and our gateway and sidecar artifacts to control traffic.

What You’ll Do

• You will lead engineering teams responsible for Edge Traffic Infrastructure, ensuring our networking architecture evolves and remains resilient to affirm’s growing needs.
• You will be responsible for defining and delivering a vision, strategy, and roadmap on a year-long time scale for ingress and egress points of our system, and tie that roadmap back to business impact.
• You will collaborate across teams : infrastructure, security, and other engineering teams to build reliable, secure, and scalable networking infrastructure to meet the needs of our external partners and internal teams.
• You will improve key metrics for availability, performance, and resiliency.
• You take ownership of your team’s operations and availability by ensuring you have the right monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, testing, and alerting in place to support “keep the lights on” & on‑call efforts.
• You will foster a culture of quality and ownership on your team by setting code review and design standards for your team, and advocating for them beyond your team through your writing and tech talks.
• You will help develop talent on your team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

What We Look For

Pay and Benefits

Pay Grade : 9

Equity Grade : 7

Base pay : $178,000 – $228,000 per year (employees new to affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range). The total compensation may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits (including 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental and vision for you and your dependents). Employees may be eligible for equity rewards offered by affirm holdings.

Affirm is proud to be a remote-first company. Most roles are remote and can be worked from within the country of employment. Some roles may occasionally be required to work out of assigned affirm office.
