We are currently recruiting for a passionate, dedicated, team player to fill the position of Brand Winemaker. This position will assume red winemaking responsibilities in our Niagara Falls winemaking facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all wine production ensuring wine quality expectations are met for VQA wines
  • Ensure all bulk products noted above are managed to reduce risk of right down or AD as much as reasonably possible.
  • Ensure all packaged products as noted above are provided to the bottling tanks in such a condition to reduce risk of FG AD as much as reasonably possible.
  • Manage all winemaking issues in the wine system related to the above products.
  • Provide products to the bottling schedule as needed.
  • Go into vineyards and select grapes that are ready for winemaking
  • Collaborates with Vineyard team to determine the optimal time for grape harvesting.
  • Oversees the picking to ensure only high-quality fruit is used.
  • Manages the winemaking process, including crushing, pressing, and fermentation.
  • Monitors fermentation and adjust as needed to achieve desired characteristics.
  • Makes decisions about blending and aging wine to create desired flavors and styles.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and training.
  • Support the NPD process to ensure successful launch of new products.
  • Adhere to all OH&S, GMP, HACCP and ISO initiatives for the site.
  • Support the supply / demand forecasting process (S&OP). Especially related to accurate blend codes for all wines in the wine system as make numbers are provided.

As well as providing guidance on recipes / naming conventions.

Support on site communication programs as required.

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Food Sciences, Oenology, or Viticulture
  • 3-5 Years of Experience in Winemaking / Cellars operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of winemaking techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of Cellar, Lab, Bottling
  • MUST show the propensity to quickly learn greater business concepts (analytics, business systems, blend development,)
  • Excellent organization skill.
  • Hands on and technical understanding of the winemaking process.
  • Analysis and synthesis of data.
  • Excellent skill level with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
  • Relationship building and positive, Can-Do attitude.
  • Generally inside and dry with potentially cool cellar temperatures.
  • Can occasionally involve outside cold and wet / snowy conditions.
  • Shift work and weekends are needed based on work load.
