Through a new, innovative partnership with Nova Scotia Health (NSH), we are opening the first transitional care center in our province, in West Bedford.
Shannex is the operating partner for the transitional care centre on behalf of Nova Scotia Health. You will have an opportunity to work in a facility with a purpose and design dedicated to providing care to NSH patients in central zone, who no longer require hospital care, but need services before they can safely return to their home and community.
We are searching for a Maintenance Coordinator to join our new Transitional Care Centre team based in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
The Maintenance Coordinator oversees maintenance and plant operations for the facility. Through the development and management of environmental safety programs, he / she ensures compliance with applicable local, provincial, and federal regulations.?
The transitional care model supports NSH patients / families who require additional time, services, and support to transition back to home / community, by providing an alternate space with intentional programming, building design, and resource allocation to increase the probability of returning to their previous living situation.

Key Duties & Responsibilities Include :
- Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance work on physical facilities, equipment and grounds.
- Conducts routine and follow-up inspections to determine compliance with Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations, chemical and general safety standards;
submits reports and makes recommendations and / or takes appropriate action to minimize potential safety, health and environmental risks.
- Maintains current knowledge of changes in provincial, federal, OHS and other safety codes and regulations as applicable.
- In cooperation with the facilities team, updates Emergency Plans (Fire, Disaster, Bomb etc.) and completes various emergency exercises to test the knowledge of the employees in emergency situations and the effectiveness of the various plans.
- Trains personnel in fire safety techniques; schedules drills and evaluates performance effectiveness.
- Inspects buildings, grounds and equipment; oversees the preventative maintenance program.?
- Develops and implements systems to maintain records on equipment, physical plant, hazardous materials and compliance activities.?
Requirements Include :
The selected candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy, current registration with the provincial licensing body, and a minimum of 5 years nursing experience.
You will be service minded, results oriented, and positive towards change and innovation. You will be a team player who works collaboratively to deliver results and also have the ability to work autonomously.
In addition, the selected candidate will have :
- Journeyperson Trade Certificate in one of the Buildings Trades or equivalent experience in building maintenance or construction
- 2+ years’ experience working in building maintenance or construction?
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Maintenance Tracking software such as Asset Planner
- Fluent in the English Language
