The Toronto office of Smith + Andersen is currently seeking a Designer, Audiovisual (AV). The Audiovisual Designer designs, engineers and produces AV system drawing packages.
The AV Designer produces all deliverables necessary for AV project completion including tender documentation, design briefs, cost documentation, site reports and computer models.
The AV Designer uses best practices and seeks out emerging technologies to continually update and improve the design process.

What You'll Do
- Design and engineer high-quality AV systems that meet budgets and project timelines.
- Produce all project deliverables including tender documentation, design briefs, opinion of cost documentation, site job reports and computer models.
- Produce AV system drawing packages suitable for bid purposes. Packages may include drawing schedules, device location drawings, sightline studies, conduit risers, etc.
- Coordinate with architects, interior designers and other consultants to ensure all audiovisual equipment is aligned from an installation and maintenance perspective.
- Calculate power and heat loads.
- Attend all project-related meetings including design coordination, bidder review and site construction meetings.
- Conduct AV system deficiency review visits at the completion of AV installation to verify design and enforce company standards.
Produce reports and deficiency checklists.
Seek out AV best practices, emerging technologies and process efficiencies in order to refine company standards.
Who You Are
- Two or more years of experience in the field of audiovisual design, engineering, project management or field engineering.
- Familiarity with electrical, mechanical and telecommunications systems as well as building and electrical codes.
- Ability to work in a team as well as individually.
- Ability to work in complex environment often driven by project deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate a strong desire for advancement and professional development.
- Experience working at a design consulting firm or an audiovisual integrator considered an asset.
- Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) designation and Manufacturer Training are assets.
- AutoCAD MEP or REVIT MEP experience considered an asset.
