Controller

Our client is searching for a Controller to join their team. This role will be responsible for implementing new controls and financial processes, planning and analyzing, operational support and financial reporting.

A successful candidate will be a charismatic and hardworking individual. This role reports directly to the CFO.

Your success will be determined by your ability to :

  • Maintain an adequate system of internal controls and verification over accounting transactions, ensuring all information and reports remain timely and accurate
  • Create and maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepare and manage monthly reconciliations
  • Run full-cycle accounting, including standards and principles
  • Work with leadership to review reporting, cash flow projections, analysis, and work in progress reconciliation and provide recommendations
  • Collaborate with the Operations Team in relation to cost to complete verification and monthly reporting
  • Manage effective payment processing and reporting
  • Provide management with information vital to the decision-making process
  • Assess current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement, and implement new processes
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting databases as needed
  • Develop and monitor business performance metrics
  • Support the Operations Team in cost accounting, budgeting and ongoing management
  • Stay current on financial related practices, trends, computer / software advances, political or regulatory activities, and competitive or economic changes which may affect the company
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and internal control systems over accounting transactions
  • Provide support for the external accountant and year end review engagement
  • Broad understanding of income tax and regulatory rules, including GST.

Your strengths include :

  • Chartered Professional Accountant Designation (CPA) required
  • 5+ years of experience working with a public accounting firm
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Expertise in month-end closings and financial statement preparation
  • Proficiency with accounting software, specifically QuickBooks and Sage
