Position : Multi Platform Producer

Location : 2885 Robie St., CTV Atlantic, Halifax (NS)

Salary : Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours of Work : Minimum 40 hours per week. May include working evenings and weekends. Overtime as required

Responsabilities

  • Produce broadcast and digital content
  • Identifying, researching, selecting, conducting interviews and writing news stories, newscasts, and feature content for CTV Atlantic's broadcast & digital platforms
  • Assist VJ's and MMJ's with editorial & digital content and production
  • Monitor the daily wires, social media, websites and other news sources; update and amend web & social media content as needed to ensure its freshness and competitive edge
  • Line up the daily newscast, reviewing suitable material and planning the program
  • Edit and post news from the CTV Atlantic newsroom and wire services across digital platforms ensuring that the content of all news, features, interviews, and photos are posted to the website in a manner consistent with CTV style
  • Coordinate elements of production including writing, editing, voicing, appearing and packaging news items for daily newscasts.

React to breaking news and manage the newscast's timing

  • Determine the treatment scope, and scheduling of broadcast production and explain general requirements to the director
  • Contribute to leading a "Digital First" culture by promoting and coordinating digital content such as photo galleries, extended interviews, raw video, viewer video, etc.
  • Ensure that copyright restrictions are respected in selecting and editing multimedia enhancements to the news, including still photos, graphics and audio files to accompany news text.
  • Co-host on-air segments and back-up anchoring possible
  • Assist in leading, planning and executing coverage of special events on broadcast and digital, making use of broadcasts, video streaming, live chats and other interactive web elements.
  • Check for accuracy of facts, fairness, typos, and technical errors prior to broadcasts and posting digital content.
  • Demonstrate strong news judgement and understand the basics of journalism
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Degree / Diploma in Journalism or equivalent required. Two or more years of practical experience in a broadcast / digital newsroom preferred
  • Experience as a broadcast news producer or digital news producer required
  • Experience as a video journalist, anchor or co-host would be an asset
  • Demonstrated news and editorial judgment, strong copy editing skills, clear and concise writing ability and an excellent command of the English language
  • Proficiency with computer software / internet and practical experience working with technical systems relevant to web operation including Content Management Systems, Adobe Photoshop, web browsers, iNews, Microsoft Office, social media platforms, blogging, FTP, basic CSS / HTML coding, SEO, multimedia publishing and web-based communications (Zoom) preferred.

Digital editing proficiency also preferred

  • Excellent understanding of journalistic ethics and current knowledge of the Maritimes
  • Demonstrated initiative, reliability and strong skills as a team-player
  • Ability to deal with multiple demands and pressure of on-air deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt positively to changes in a multi-platform industry
