The Opportunity

Altus Group is currently seeking a candidate in the position of Associate based out of our Calgary office to join our Cost & Project Management division. Working with the management team, the Associate is responsible for managing multiple projects within the assigned budgets and ensuring services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities :

Technical Services. Provide a full range of cost consulting services to new and existing clients. This involves a full technical understanding of construction estimation.

Calculate the measurements of specific building elements and other contract documentation for detailed and conceptual estimates

Provide benchmarking data (unit costs for buildings / unit rate analysis)

Prepare complex take-offs and reports for insurance replacement costs

Review and negotiate pricing for change orders to ensure accurate cost estimations

Collaborates with various internal / external partners to obtain the necessary information to prepare proposals / reports; develops innovative solutions to meet the client’s unique requirements; prepares and delivers high impact client presentations

Technical Management. Conduct technical checking and quality assurance of reports produced by others to ensure the deliverables are of billable quality before issuance to clients

Direct the distribution of inputs required for the preparation of the estimates, provide advice on project task and ensure receipt of the inputs as per established deadlines

Consolidate / Review Project Cost Estimate / Cost Plan

Client Relationship Management. Maintain ongoing client communication and resolve issues expeditiously. Escalate issues to next level of management as required

Business Development. Responsible for developing and building long term client relationships with existing clients to grow fee earnings through repeat business and referrals

Position Requirements :

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Civil / Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Science or in a related field

10 years of experience in commercial real estate cost estimation or related field

Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), Member RICS

Project Management Professional (PMP) and LEED accreditation are an asset.

Excellent knowledge of SharePoint, CostX and Microsoft Office

Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, written & verbal

Strong knowledge of CIQS standard method of measurement – elemental / trade, Provincial lien act and Standard contract conditions – CCDC

Understanding of various procurement methods and scheduling

Ability to prepare and complete trade / elemental complex take-offs based on preliminary design documents and tender / construction documents
